There's a great subtlety to this post. I like how it all unfolds quite innocently, slowly, and then when we get that hint of paranormal from the young girl Anne, things start to get eerie. Then there is that vision of the young man protecting the girl and getting shot. The innocent family scenes and conversation are a great contrast with that eeriness and it makes it stand out all the more. Interesting post. estory

What a lovely review, estory. I love how you've picked out the way the story had unfolded in this first chapter. I will be writing this story, but will finish The Return first. Thanks, my friend, you are such an encouraging reviewer. Love and hugs, Sandra xx

And the journey begins for both writer and the characters she creates. A long and amazing trip it will be. You hooked us. What a wonderfully written chapter.

Good luck in the contest and the rest of the story!

Have a great day, and God bless.

Very excellent. I haven't read the previous, but it reads like there is a story to be told.
I'm ever amazed at the difference between American and British English. Here, a cake would easily feed 8-10 people.
Good luck.

Hi, Wayne, thanks so much for reading the first chapter in this book. Cakes in the UK come in different sizes. We have the large ones, the same as you, and smaller ones as well. A small cake in something like a miniture large cake. We also have buns, tarts, biscuits, pastries and pies. All come in large, medium and small sizes. I've been amazed at the differences between us. Both countries are English speaking, but some of the spellings and meanings are different. I didn't know this until I began writing on Fanstory. Two that stand out are your 'Bangs' we call them a 'Fringe' and your bank 'check' is spelt 'cheque' here. To check something out, is the same as yours. I think I've written another novel replying to your review!! Lol. Thanks, Wayne. Warm hugs. Sandra xxx

I heard once that English is french spoken badly. Of course that's not true, English being influenced so strongly by German, but based on the ancient dialects of the very early inhabitants, those before the Roman invasion. The major issue with the written language is that the printing press (thus the dictionaries) was invented before the language was settled.

Another adventure that starts with detective clues, a pair of trousers, a girly dress, etc. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next chapter.

Hello Sandra,
Outstanding beginning to another adventure.
It good to see our old friends back again, with an assignment too.
It looks like the past is calling, perhaps including Ann.
A few years have passed as Michael and Ann are both teenagers now; sounds like Ann will be going to collage soon.
Well done.
Best wishes.
Robert

Check PM message.
One thing confused me at bit: "Mildred is a flesh and bones entity, born in 1887 and died in 1940."
It been awhile, but I thought Mildred was alive and well in the 1990s, living with Veronica and James after Mrs Humphries passed away.
I know she later died and came back younger for book three.
Maybe I've got things mixed up.

Hi Robert. No, you've not got it wrong, it was just me. I didn't know how to introduce Mildred to the new readers on here, I've replied in a fashion to your PM, but the more I'm thinking about it, the more I'm leaning towards not explaining Mildred at all. Just let her be the Mildred everybody likes. You never know, perhaps the newer readers will want to buy the trilogy and then they'll know exactly who she is.
Thank you so much for this excellent review, Robert, I'm really pleased you have joined the other readers who want them back again. I have a lovely plot waiting for them to sort out. And a humongous hug for the golden star! Love and hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

As always, you've left me off anxiously wanting to find out what happens next and get an explanation for clothes. But I never fear, you'll fill me in on everything I need to know next time. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Ric. I don't know if you read the earlier books featuring these characters in the time-travel-trilogy?
I'm glad you want to read more, I'll be starting it properly soon. I've got to finish The Return first. Thanks, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

What a wonderful start to another of your 'This Time' series. With beautifully crafted and well loved characters, I'm sure everyone has missed them as much as I have, and it was like meeting old friends when I read this first chapter. I wouldn't doubt it's a very strong contender for the competition, and I look forward to reading on when the time comes.
What a clever lady you are!

Thank you, Sanku, so much for this lovely review. I'll be writing a short story that will explain Mildred who has 'lived' for over 120 years. She's a great character. I'm glad you liked this beginning for their next adventure back in time. Warm hugs, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Well, I certainly found this intriguing and interesting.
How did the bag get snagged on a tree branch?
Why has it been brought to Mildred's and Veronica's attention.
Will Ann have more premonitions to help solve the mystery of
the owners of the clothes? Some many questions which needs
more chapters to satisfy the reader :-)

Just a quick question on this point -
When her granddaughter, by several generations,
- what do you mean by several generations?

Thank you for this engaging read.

Thank you for your positive review, I'm so pleased you found it intriguing. Those questions are excellent, I'm not telling you the answers, though! I have decided to write a short story about Mildred which will then explaing your final question about the several generations. She is not your normal grandmother, far from it. But the children have grown up with her, and through time traveling, Veronica met Mildred when she was just a fourteen-year-old maid back in 1940 and Veronica came from the future and was in her mid-twenties in her own time. This started the first book in my trilogy of This Time-That Time. Mildred is now ageless and won't get any older than she is in this time. I don't know if any of this makes any sense, lol, that's why I'll be writing the story of Mildred first. Thanks so much for your interest, my friend. Warm hugs. Sandra xx
