A beautiful tribute to a wonderful teacher by an appreciative student which likely played itself forward time and again. Teach was creative and caring. Time past should be missed. Pledge Of Allegiance = gone. God Bless America = not allowed but smut is, and books degrading the human spirit. Oh well, to hell in a basket we go.

Thank you. Barb was a great teacher and friend. We got no special favors because she was our cousin. Hugs

You were so fortunate to have so brilliant a teacher as your cousin, Barbara. Primary education teachers are so very important to children's mental growth by instilling the love of learning.

I had several more teachers in my years of education, but none were as compassionate and kind as her. [",,, as compassionate and kind as SHE." In polite conversation, of course, everyone says "her", but if you put that sentence to the test by adding in the missing word "was" you'll see it can only be grammatically correct with "she".]

Great job!

Thank you. Yep, sometimes little things slip by one while writing. I appreciate the grammer reminder. Barb was one of the great teachers. Hugs

An awesome story entry
for the A Memorable Teacher writing prompt contest. Great imagery. It flows well with beautifully descriptive words that paint a clear vision. Barbara sounds like a great teacher.

I still remember my teacher and im a teacher too. It's one of the best jobs in the world.

The essay form is well executed.

Good luck in the contest!

I taught business classes to adults with employment barriers. I also teach Japanese poetic forms...especially haiku.

This is a lovely write about Barbara, your memorable teacher. As I read I could feel your enjoyment and the fact no kid wanted to go to the basement for a 'chat'
I agree, we need to have a few chats with some of the kids nowadays, our teachers have no right of discipline and the kids know it. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. I agree, parents and teachers don't dare touch a child now or they may be charged with abuse. I never felt abused, I learned respect for authority. Hugs

This is a well-told story and I can feel your love for your favorite teacher Barbara. I can relate to your older brother walking you to school and my brother Tim didn't like me tagging along either. He was five years older than me so when I was going to first grade at a new school he resented taking me to school as well. We didn't have a basement for a chat like you did in the olden days but somehow I got to school every day anyway. I had some favorite teachers too as I grew up and remember them well.
Thanks for reminding me of how it was when I was younger and in school.

Thank you. I think some of the old ways were so much better. Teachers have such large classes now that they don't give much individual time. Ken was five years older than me too. Hugs.

Your story takes the reader to another place and time. Barbara instilled a love of learning in you and it is amazing that her own children were in school where she taught. The one room school sounds like something we need to return to. Excellent story with a smooth flow of writing that holds the reader's interest.

Thank you. It was a different world in the fifties. I think it was much better in some ways. However, if I would have had my heart attack in the fifties instead of 2000, I probably would have died. So progress is good in a lot of things. Hugs

Those basement chats no doubt were lessons well learned and remembered.

Too bad they do not make teachers like "Barbara" anymore.

They sure are needed.

Thank you. I never had another teacher even come close the the teaching skills that Barb had. I wish I could have had her all through school. Hugs.

That was lovely, and it made me think of my favourite teacher. She taught needlework. I thought she was wonderful.
Your Barbara sounds like an angel the way she taught all levels and gave each individual attention. And I agree with you, it wouldn't do any harm today for children to be given some sort of discipline. They know a teacher isn't allowed to smack any more, so they play up more. I don't envy todays teachers. Well done, I enjoyed reading about yours. :)) Good luck in the contest. Sandra xx

Thank you. I agree, kids today could do with a bit of discipline. We got our hind ends spanked and it didn't do us any harm. It taught us some respect. Hugs.

A fine tribute to someone who was most assuredly a teacher in a million. Compassion, kindness and commonsense are wonderful attributes for anyone in the teaching profession.
