You brought me right into your life quickly. I read with some sense of urgency for you to find your father. And my heart hurt at your final loss. Great writing.

I thought you wrote an emotional, sad story. Two people that never got the chance of knowing each other. You seemed to be a courageous person of never giving up. Your dad would have been proud. GOOD LUCK IN THE CONTEST.

This is an unusual story for the Special Time for My Dad and Me contest, since that special time has not taken place. This is also the story of a young boy who did not deserve to never be told anything about why his father chose not to be in his life. I knew a lady who experienced the same thing with her father. It can be painful. I like that your story has an optimistic ending. Best wishes in the contest.

This is such a bittersweet story. I wonder if losing the other child is what broke your parents apart. That happen sometimes because we don't always grieve the same way and one parent often blames the other. I can't believe a father could do that if he realized what an impact that might have on his child. The fact you still long to meet him after he didn't stay in touch is amazing, but I hope when we all live again you will have that chance and it will be worth the wait.

I'm so sorry about how it all panned out. Why your half sister, Debbie, could suddenly be jealous of you is beyond me. I'm not also sorry that you found your father when it was too late. Good luck in the contest. Ulla:)))

Such a sad but over abundant situation. Divorce hurts everyone, in particular the children, especially those who never get to relive actual moments of intimacy with the missing parent. I especially like your description: "He was a wonderful pretend father."
Para 4, 5th sentence: Remove comma after "And"
Para 6, 7th sentence: Need comma after "rejection"
Para 7, 1st sentence: Need comma after "rang"
Para 7, 2nd sentence: Need comma after "sister"
Para 7, 3rd sentence: Remove comma after "But"
Para 8, 2d sentence: "cemetary" should be "cemetery"
Para 8, 4th sentence: Need comma after "me"
Para 9, 4th sentence: Need a paragraph space after "him."
Last sentence: Need comma after "Heaven"
Sad story made even more forlorn by the fact that you never really did get closure. And the only remnant of your father seems to have rejected you as well. Sad story, told well.

What a sad story! Especially the last part when you new-found sister didn't want to see you again. Perhaps another letter asking why. She might tell you now. I sincerely hope so, you can tell her how unhappy you are, and that even though she had your father in her life always, you didn't and still hadn't felt jealous of her. This is a good contest entry, well done and good luck! :)) Sandra xx

Debbie was 'daddy's little girl' all her life. Don't understand how my sudden existence makes her feel threatned.

It does seem weird. She had the one thing you wanted in life, yet she was jealous of you. I can understand it if it was the other way around. Nevery mind, you are bigger than that!!

It is hard to look for closure and not find it. I am glad you have come through the experience with hope in your heart. This is a delightful story. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing. Have a great week.

What a shame the relationship with your half sister was not able to last after all the effort to find her. Such a disappointment to not meet your father again too. You have not had it easy and have always missed him in your life. Best wishes for your entry.

This is heartbreaking. These stories are more common than we want to believe, and you've told your personal story very well here.
You can't know why your father never got in touch - perhaps he was ashamed. I hope you are right, that you will be reunited once again.

I think his mother told him it was better that way because he had a new family to care for. Thank you for reading and commenting.
