This is as lovely as it is wise. So true...

That first rush of attraction can be deceiving! It's....something!

(But it's not love!)

Love this line:

"Butterflies oft flit away
to savor other flavors."

Been there, got my heart broken.

Your picture plus words pair perfectly, Beth. I enjoyed
reading your well thought out contest entry. You gave
great advice on relationships and love. In today's world,
couples just move on quickly when things get tough in a
marriage--if they're even married. I like the smooth flow
and the rhyme scheme.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

You can not hurry, love. It takes two hearts to become one. One-sided love, one of them gets devastated. Some people try buying love. It does not work. No matter how much money a person has, you can not buy happiness. Thank you for sharing.

Oh yes indeed. One never really knows someone else, like you, there can a attraction, but love at first sight is fallacious. I've heard so many stories of just those attractions, and then what manifests in the so called "love at..." is a horror stiry. Beautifully written, a very sage work, well done, blessings Roy

Thank you. All relationship will have some kinks that need to be worked out. If they don't occur until after marriage, it an unpleasant shock that often doesn't end well.

I completely agree with this contest entry. That's why in my romance novels, I take time to develop the romance, even though I take some heat from some reviewers, especially a certain one. I want to develop unconditional love and it takes time. I enjoyed reading your entry and wish you the best of luck with the contest.

Thank you Barbara. That is one of many things I like about your romance novels. Your characters do take time to get to know each other and work through the kinks.

This poem, A Bit of Loving Advice, challenges the notion of love at first sight. We who have been around know that love like that only occurs with parent and child. Relationships are the result of the sloughing off of what impedes love through conflict. Eventually you know.

Thanks Bill, what I didn't learn in my own marriage, I saw illustrated my watching my children who never seem to take my loving advice.

Great advice to anyone seeking love! My favorite lines were:
"Love is a precious present
one should carefully unwrap."
and
"Love is not a one-way street;
it's like an intersection."
Recently, it seems people are not willing to work things out. In your family chronicles, you show how committed love worked through all the challenges you and Evan faced.
Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you Helen. It worked for Evan and me but apparently my kids paid no attention to my advice. There have been three divorces.
There were warning signs if they had paid attention.

I think sometimes having a good and solid marriage makes kids have too high an expectation from marriage. I know it's been hard for my daughter as she's had lots of challenges and she never saw us fight. But I saw a lot growing up so I had no expectations. Lol.

Your poem is "right on the money" as to the definition of love and things that appear as love, but are just illusions and fade. My favorite idea was of love as an intersection, rather than a one-way street. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you Verna. I glad you told me a line you like especially in the poem in your review. I never expect to win these contest. I do them because they are free to enter and for the challenge.

Obviously, your advice to make and grow love is a natural and time bound process for falling in love fastest or too quickly may not true love and may be short-time love show for real love takes time; well said, well done, post god speed more, share post not 4 self-joy-pride but 4 God and readers worldwide Alcreator Litt Dear (DR)

Beth, This is a very lovely love poem full of very good advice. You used great descriptive and true words. I fell in love first time too fast and was married 13 years, but got divorced. Now second marriage was fast but has lasted for 34 years with twin sons to go with our older son. You did give good advice. Best wishes in the contest. love and blessings, teri

Thank you Teri, I'm sure you likely knew what to look for by the second time around. I have a feeling you took God into the equation as well.
