I would love your title to be your last line. It is very good. I wools also like maybe and example of what you lack Instead off a list. Show me why it made you a skilled liar. That especially stood out to me. Ps I work as a paraprofessional for an incredibly bright young man on the spectrum. Your are right, he is brilliant in so many ways and on the other hand, he needs an assistant with him at all times to help him cope emotionally and socially. Bless you. And thanks for sharing this.

I'm self sufficient, but my daughter requires assistance- she's medium severity, low functioning.
So, when you don't understand social cues, and you take things literally that weren't intended to be and vice versa, when you laugh too loud and too long, when you try to compliment someone but this awkward disaster falls out of your mouth, wanting to fit in, etc. All these social challenges put a lot of pressure on socializing for me. I was mature enough to get in trouble with my first grade teacher for reading Edgar Allen Poe behind my See Dick, See Jane primer, but the 6 & 7 year olds around me were a mystery.
So, I mimicked what I heard and saw from others to get by. I became a very good actress and a skilled liar in the process too. I started faking that I was who I thought others wanted me to be. And it changed a lot over the years. When I was in my late 30s is when I realized that I didn't even know myself anymore and that i was going to change that. . So, upon much introspection I swore off lying (the whole not being me, not just intentionally telling ourlandish lies for attention and swore on being me. No matter what. I hope this rambling note helped me to explain a bit on the lying - it wasn't an intentional thing.
