I'm not sure when your Memorial Day is, but our ANZAC day equivalent falls on my mother's birthday on 25th of April, this is a great tribute to the young men and women in your armed forces, this is beautifully written my friend, blessings Roy

Roy, thank you. This reflection is why, I thank every veteran that I see. Most people will never understand the importance of this.

Not only them, but every occupation that deals with life and death issues, (which is considerable numbers) but remember the soldiers begging on the streets, they need more that thanks, otherwise it?s hypocrisy.

I'm fully agree!

I know many US solders have been involved in wars around the world and thankfully the US has never been attacked by another country. I know you have suffered terrorist attacks though. War is a terrible thing and Britain suffered during World War II. Another fine poem for April's challenge John, love Dolly x

Dolly, I feel passionate about the need to take a moment and thank any veteran I come across. Most people never will be able to appreciate the sacrifices. Every member of any nation who has given service to their countries are exceptional in regard to selfless service.
Comment from Verna Cole Mitchell
You expressed a facet of the terrors of war. The first stanza was my favorite. I have a grandson who's a captain in the Air Force, and for the situation of the world today, I fear for him. I think he is going to take a civilian job and join National Guard. I would sleep a little better, and so would his wife and daughter.

Excellent verse, so well expressed in perfect rhythm and meter. Clever imagery of daytime light and weather distancing him from the horrors of the beast of warfare and trauma? Only for it to return under the cover of darkness. A sincerely written poem conveying a very haunting message. Thanks for sharing, Debbie

So true of the soldier and the storms in his head. My heart aches for each one, my fathers and brothers. A tender tribute to the valiant soldiers, past and present. Thank you again for your service and sacrifice.
Blessings to you always.

Seasoned Veterans that have gone to battle the evil forces don't deserve the constant torment of revisiting their friends maimed or worse, but medicine cannot take away their pain and leave them operational.
