What's really sad is that you could probably write one of these per week and there would be new statistics each time. Your essay was very persuasive and you made a lot of good points. I still blame a lot on mental health. It's sad that this is even a discussion. Great job. Gretchen

I believe that a lot of the gun violence, and the mass shootings is a result of America having lost its moral compass. When I was in high school, all of the boys carried a gun in the back of their trucks to go hunting after school, but they never once decided they wanted to pull the gun out and shoot somebody with it. When we took God out of the schools. When we lessened the penalty for committed gun crimes.. Those things have a part in what we're seeing I think. Patricia

Well done, old mate. I guess we also need to remember America is the same place promoting abortions ad nausea. I am glad some states in your country ARE banning abortions. The left are particularly supportive of these but I suppose the RIght are probably more supportive of gun ownership.

This is such a loaded subject (if you'll excuse the pun!) and this writing is particularly well written and researched and makes some very valid points endorsing policy changes, greater restrictions etc. But, unfortunately, the more these mass killings hit the news, the more unsafe people will feel with a real danger that their demand for gun ownership will correspondingly increase. As you rightly conclude, it's not the guns that are to blame but the people into whose hands they fall and, with the best will in the world, sometimes there are simply no predictors of extreme irrational behaviour of this kind. It is such a deeply complex argument but your piece certainly opens doors to a very vital and urgent need to address this issue in as non-partisan a way as possible. Thanks for sharing, Debbie

According to an article I read recently there have been 146 masks shootings this year, more than the days that have transpired, the 2nd amendment, supposedly a symbol of freedom is a sacred cow, a golden calf, an idol, at which many, many people have been sacrificed, the devil hasn't changed his way, they are simply dressed up in different clothes. There is only one solution, do as Jesus said, "don't bear weapons, or you will die by them" but even Christians are deceived. Blessings Roy

I am in favor of the 2nd amendment. I am not in favor of mass shooting. If we surrender our guns only the law-abiding citizens will give up their guns. The mass shooters will not. If I'm not mistaken, I saw a stat that in almost every mass shooting case somebody knew about it in advance and did nothing. I think that's were we need to focus. Thank you for sharing. I know I am in the minority.

I am in favor of the 2nd amendment. I am not in favor of mass shooting. If we surrender our guns only the law-abiding citizens will give up their guns. The mass shooters will not.
