That was so lovely, Kay. I know this happens a lot. I loved that the surviving puppy was named Joy, it's an appropriate name, and I'm she would bring the old man a lot of pleasure. Well done and good luck in the contest. :) Sandra xx

Hello, my dear friend Sandra. I am missing Jan and I guess you are too. So sudden. Thanks for reading and a lesson in getting a female desexed! Love, Kay.

This is a very touching flash story that you have written. I can see how that your dad having delivered six puppies and one was only survivor and your name it Joy. Have a good day and God bless. Patricia.

Hi Patricia, It was fiction for the contest; but it did happen. K xx

This story definitely tugs at the heart strings. Your setting is clear, with characters conflict and a hopeful resolution.

Joy is a lovely name for an only surviving pup from a litter. My suggestion is to remove the author notes, as this is intended to be a fiction story.

Enjoyed this very much. :)

Hello, my friend, I have removed my notes. I realised it was supposed to be fiction (but it did happen) thanks for reading. I notice you are not writing so much. So sad about Jan passing. Love, Kay xx

How very sad for Tiri. How difficult it would be to cope with such grief, for dogs do experience it just as we do. I'm glad one survived. Beautifully written. Best wishes for the contest.

Hi Wendy, Gloria told me to remove my notes as the contest was for fiction. I did. But it really did happen to Tiri. Thank you, my friend. K xx

So, so sad. Thank goodness for Joy! Heartbreaking as it was there must've been done jubilation when all was said and done.

Great entry into the flash contest.

John

That's so sad. Your story felt like it was based on a real event. I'm sad for the lost pups but I wonder what did Joy look like. Was she really a mix of fox terrier and heeler? Wash she much bigger than Tiri?
Best wishes in the contest!

Hi Lena, Thanks for reading. She threw more to the blue heeler in looks, taller and longer snout. She had an accident where she ripped her belly open on barbed wire. Dad raced her to the vet but she was never the same dog. It had to be a true story for the contest. Blessings, Kay xx

Oh, I only saw that it was a "flash fiction" story so it didn't have to be true.

No, I had to remove my notes; it was supposed to be fiction! But it did happen.
