Deep into John's Gospel here, with Jesus standing at the foot of the temple mount, looking up at the huge candelabra in the temple, lighting up half Jerusalem for the feast (of Tabernacles?) and now He says, 'I am the Light of the World' - what a visual aid! (John 8:12)
So, along with 'the darkness could not extinguish/overcome the light' we have the idea of 'Christian enlightenment' being so powerful that it can overcome any former problems. Therefore 'receiving the light' or 'passing from darkness into the light' is another way of saying 'becoming a Christian'. So your poem is the experience of millions around the world.
Good to see it expressed so clearly here. Thank you, kahpot.

Kahpot,
The sentiment of this poem is a universal one.
It is especially touching for me, because my life wasn't whole until I was saved. I've backslid, but Jesus keeps holding me near.
