Congratulations on your win. No question why it was voted on; it is interesting and keeps your reader interested and in suspense. Having to carry live communication deepened the suspense.
Great job
Mary

LOL, well dang, Douglas, this is quite the tale! So, you never set foot in Bridgeport, eh? That is probably a good thing. No doubt there is a colony of migrants, not the kinds who come from the southern border, living in Bridgeport. Excellent writing. Terry.

Yeah, not so much. Check out the very very very top line of the post. It holds clues to what really occurred out there in California.

LOL, caught me on that one!

This will give the reader cause to pause: "I was in the back of the truck by the rear tailgate and observed a couple of things. One was a sign for the Bridgeport Reservoir that was located to the south, but we turned north." You've had some good examples of foreshadowing: "Now to this point, everything could be explained away, but what happened next could not." I'm going to guess this is a UFO matter, We'll see if I've picked up your hints enough. I've been watching Skin Walker Ranch. The only thing left of this scenerio is a unidentified black government helicopter. A+

Thank you, Liz! I appreciate the highly coveted and rare end of the week six star rating.

I intentionally left my opinion of what it was out because I was torn between the option you guessed and possibly a downed US or even Russian experimental craft. There were no copters. Nothing in the air, in fact.

This one may do well, as people seem to like it! possibly believers!

Wow, this is some story! Absolutely top secret and, although you were there with live ammunition and awarded a certificate for the course, the deep secret remains ever that! Your well expressed and thoroughly engaging account reminds us just how much we're kept in the dark when even your own Marine Corps wasn't appraised of the relevance of your presence there. A great entry for the contest! Good luck! Debbie

Do you mean your group was never told what it was all about, and you were given live ammunition?
Are you saying you think it was a UFO?
That's what it sounds like to me.

I did not say what I thought it was because I was torn between several things, including maybe some downed US or Russian experimental craft? As Marines we were told very little which was common.

How do the people in command expect you to react to a situation not knowing what it is? Blind obedience, it sounds like. I can understand your having to carry out orders, but not knowing what you might be getting into, doesn't seem right.
I know. That's just the way it was.
It's just that your story got me to thinking those things.

It?s true. You certainly do not want to be in the military if you want to know what is going on. They put us on a plane once, full load out, and we ended up in Cuba. Our job w as to protect Carter as he monitored elections in Haiti.

An excellent response to the prompt and a brilliant piece of writing. You took me along with your story and led me to the obvious conclusion that you were protecting an alien spaceship. Close Encounters. Great stuff. Good luck.

I?m not sold on alien crafting . It could have been a downed experimental U.S. or Russian craft.

Don't know if I can get the required one hundred and fifty characters for a legitimate review. How many times can I saw alien spaceship? Alien spaceship. Alien spaceship.
Best wishes.

Are you sure, Wayne. I didn?t make a guess in the piece because I go back and forth. Could it not have been a crashed experimental US or Russian craft? I just can?t say. Any of those scenarios would have brought in a U.S. Airforce General. No?
reply by Wayne Fowler on 19-Oct-2023
    Nope. Not sure of nothin'.
And I'm not a conspiracy loon despite what I sounded like.

Well, the secret activity they were engaged in remains a secret! A very well told and "different" story with an interesting theme and subject matter. Very thought-provoking.
Best wishes for your entry.

I lean towards experimental US or Russian aircraft. Still, it?s up in the air.
