I enjoyed reading your interesting, rhyming poem. It speaks to what is going on today with the present war in Gaza. Your poem flows well with the reality of what the people in that country, especially the women and children are enduring. Thank you for bringing my focus back to this reality. I will pray for the war to end and for peace to come to the land. Thank you for sharing your poem and author notes. Best wishes!

Sorry for taking so long to reply to your thoughtful review. The situation in Gaza still haunts me and I am still in disbelief that the world is still just standing by allowing the massacre to continue.

Wow, really well done poem combining words and phrases from our National Anthem.
What a way to get your message across.
Wonderful rhyming choices make this a very effective poem.

WOW! This is by far a much more impassioned anthem than the vaunted Star Spangled Banner. As celebrated as our national anthem is, this one is by far much more meaningful, largely because it is happening right before our eyes. Excellent!

You have described the horror of what is going on in Gaza very vividly descriptively!! It is always the innocents that suffer in war sadly. It is a well written piece of rhyming poetry but it is the message that is the most important thing.

The problem who is to blame for the loss of innocent life, you don't think that Hamas will stop throwing rockets and kidnapping innocents do you, which is worse using your own people as human shields or the Israelis fighting people who hide in dark tunnels, it's so unfortunate that innocents lose life, but this conflict has been going on for thousands of years, Hitler killed millions of innocent Jews, no wonder they are paranoid, well done, blessings Roy

The political perspectives during this terrible conflict will be forthcoming for years and years, and will reach no absolute conclusions. The elemental immorality of war has been a topic for milliennia, and still remains unsolved.
The question of Israel's survival, or even of its entitlement to exist, has gone on nonstop for 75 years. The purpose of war is to win, and there will always be the deaths of innocent people.
This site is about poetry and writing. This poem, "The Razing of Gaza," uses the Star Spangled Banner's meter as its basis for a bitterly sarcastic comment on the Gaza war. The author skillfully adheres to the metrical structure of the source song to make a criticism of both Israel and humanity in general.

I have no solution to this cost in death between intransigent parties. It is ordinary people who innocently suffer the outcomes of dark and relentless ambitions.

It's a challenging time for all concerned. The politics of the region are so complex. I have tremendous sympathy for Israel, given the unprecedented attacks launched by Hamas, but even so, it's very difficult to watch the extent of the retaliation and the suffering of innocents. Thank you for sharing this.

very powerful and moving poem about the on-going crisis in Gaza, which was caused by Hamas who were hoping for an over-reaction by Israel, which played right into their game.

I loved how you played in our Star Spangled Banner and intertwined it with the devastation of Gaza. It is such a complicated mess over there. Kind of a damned if you do and a damned if you don't situation that's been happening for generations. One can only wonder if it will ever end and no more innocent lives will be lost. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
