I've always been intrigued by dreams as well. Many times I have woken up and want to remember every detail... or want to go back to sleep and keep the dream going. Thanks for sharing this poem with us.

A substantial contribution to this site's literature. Not only did you adhere perfectly to the sonnet format, your text did justice to the topic of dreams. You managed to cast a little bit of a spell. I really liked the last line.

The only thing you could do to amp this up more would be some experimenting with the text presentation, and/or some sort of complex background animation on the text itself. I can show you how to do this if you are interested, and can find an effect that you would want to use (it would need to be a transparent animated gif).

Thank you so much for this review! I would absolutely be interested; I'm lost when it comes to that. Haha

Check out the background on this page and tell me if it is something like what you want. (It should show up correctly on a smallish phone screen, but if you are on a wider screen, I have not extended the background out that far yet. This is just a demo)

You have poetically captured the mysterious activity of the brain and dreams as we sleep. We often dream of events of the day, or dream deceased loved ones are alive. We also dream our deepest desires are true.

You have carefully analyzed this topic and leave us with ideas to ponder.

Dreams fascinate me. I've that we all dream, every night. I rarely remember my dreams. My husband has very vivid dreams and always remembers every detail of his. It makes no sense to me. I enjoyed reading your poem and thank you for sharing it.

Thank you, Barbara! My husband is the same. I haven't lately, but used to have night terrors. Those were awfully vivid.

I love this! Yes, dreams are interesting and intriguing. So, sometimes they seem to have a meaning, and other times they are utterly crazy! I love it when you say, "our minds cannot be closed when they're asleep."" Great job with this!

This lovely sonnet had a dream-like feel to it with the descriptions given. My favorite lines: Where hopes take flight, untouched by worldly harms,
And whispered wants, like drifting petals, flow. Very nicely written. The artwork works well with the piece.

This is a beautiful sonnet, Jess, about a very interesting subject. I especially loved these two lines:

Unfiltered are the thoughts our dreams explore;
Our minds cannot be closed when they're asleep.

Our dreams do indeed give us a chance to explore new thoughts and keep our minds open to possibilities we might otherwise reject. I just wish they were all pleasant thoughts and not the occasional, inexplicably unpleasant ones which I don't understand and which tend to recur.

I think Freud may be right with his theory of unresolved issues coming to light in dreams. I just wish I understood what those issues might be because it isn't usually clear to me. My most common recurring dream is one of me in college, forgetting to attend a course on my schedule for the whole semester, and then realizing it at the end when I am way behind and have to cram for the final and read all the books I neglected to read. It makes it sound like there's something I've neglected to do all my life which has finally caught up with me, but damned if I know what it is?

Dreams are a fascinating subject. I just wish mine were as mind-expanding as the ones you've highlighted in your sonnet. - Jim

    Thank you so much, MM.
I agree with you on the Frued front. It's amazing how certain experiences stay with us! I have a recurring dream that's somewhat similar- except I'm back waitressing at the restaurant I worked all through college. I'm juggling too many tables and failing to bring drinks, greet customers, etc. lol
I'm so happy you picked up those two lines in particular.

This sonnet, Night Visions, has the proper formatting and leans toward the idea that we are more open to possibilities when the protections of life are eased and our souls freed.

Hi Jessica,
This is a well done sonnet about making our night dreams into reality. I like that you say that our dreams are the truest versions of ourselves.
The artwork is colorful and a bit mystical.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day,
Joan

Hi there,
I wish I had a sixer for you and this work. I love the process you've described. I struggle with feeling like I've lost my dreams - I don't sleep as much as I used to - so this piece struck a chord with me.
Thank you for sharing,
~Mustang~
