Hello Debbie,
I don't often give sixes for poems, but this one was such a delight that I had no choice. The story you told was wonderful. I know that I would never have made it through the first day. Its too bad that the egg didn't sell for the estimated value, but the value that it held for Sybil was priceless. Well done gal.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

That's a wonderful tribute to a wonderful story. I doubt that there would have been a best before date on the egg of that age (as mentioned in your helpful notes) although I would not be tempted. Fantastic Five stars

What an original and topical subject! The piece was beautifully written, and it tells the complete story in just a few stanzas. Discovering it was based on a true story is the icing on the egg.

I must applaud and salute the discipline it had to have taken to resist taking even the slightest bite or even a little lick. Loving sweets as much as I do, I know for a fact I woud probably have weakened and gone all the way in.

Debbie, IMHO, once again, your story is proof positive that true life can be more interesting than any fiction...There aren't many of us on Fanstory who have relatives who left a legacy close to this...Your sequenced relaying
poetically of Sybil's story as chronicled via your notes is awesome. Thanks
for sharing the picture and this heartwarming post of sacrifice with Fanstorians. teafor2

Thank you so much for this kind and thoughtful review! Sadly, she wasn't related. Any relative of mine would have been on it like a shot:)) Take care Debbie

Hi, Debbie. You have penned a sweet tale of the girl who kept her treasured chocolate egg for ever and a day! Lovely flowing rhyme and meter lead the reader through the story to its disappointing auction performance.

Lovely yarn, well told.

Oh, I love this true story. You could not have written it with more heart, as well as your always impeccable rhyme and meter.

I wonder if the bidder in the auction will carry on the tradition to remind us all the truest treasures may well be those we hold on to!

This is heartwarming.

Not much on the news is these days!

Thank you so much, Karenina! This story just popped up on local news amid the doom and gloom and I couldn't resist it:)) Hopefully, it might end up in a museum somewhere (the egg as opposed to my verse!) Take care Debbie

What strong willpower she had, both as a child and as an adult. They don't make them like that anymore. Your lovely poem and notes give insight into a different world, that of strict regulation, poverty, and enormous appreciation of every gift. Beautiful poem and photo.

sole or single? How amazing her story is. Yes, people in those days prized breadcrumbs. The Easter Egg must have seemed for royalty. A very strong woman right until the end. Of course, the chocolate would have been Yuk. Queen Victoria gave all her soldiers a box of chocolate - most brought them home. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story my friend. K xx

Thank you so much, Kay, for this very kind review which I deeply appreciate! A truly different age. I've just seen a pic of my 4 year old grandson after an egg hunt pushing a wheelbarrow stacked full of Easter eggs... and I don't mean the mini ones!! I don't think he'll ever value his in quite the same way:( Take care, Debbie xx

I wonder how many parents tell their children the real meaning of Easter. And, how did rabbits get into it? They don't lay eggs :-)

What an amazing story and poem! I loved it when l was reading it, but then found out it was a true story. That made it even more special and l can't believe the willpower she had.
