In your first paragraph you had a sentence that I've always considered smart thinking that's very true; although, I don't word it the same was as you. But people are truly creatures of their own environments. Thanks for sharing.

I liked the part about the figurines being considered idols. I started sculpting in clay when I was nine. I was a natural and good. That is until my pastor told me I was sinning against God by sculpting clay bodies. I quit. I'll never quit again. Thanks for your story.

Thank you Eean, I appreciate. I think people should be careful about thinging they are in a position of judging another, especially when it comes to destroying a God given talent. I hope I'll see you around again. I read your post an enjoyed your writing.

Comment from Wayne Fowler
The racism of the period between the civil war and the 1960s is sad, but easily understood. The mean-ness is not. What's pitiful is blatant racism now, 50 years after we should have become enlightened.
This is a very nicely written chapter.

Thank you Wayne, Willie wasn't mean. I just picked the wrong hero who convinced him the what he was told as a young man was the way it should continue to be. I'm own father was the Archie BUnker type suspicious of all races other than his own. Mom shore whe wasn't but she was raised in that enviroment too.

This is a wonderfully thorough portrayal of Willie, warts and all, as they say. I loved hearing about his latest venture and burying his statuettes in the garden! He lived in a time pre-emancipation when racism was rife. It's absolutely right that he should be described as you do in that context, without sugarcoating. I'm not surprised you devote a whole chapter to him. He was certainly a character you wouldn't forget in a hurry!
Small edit: para starting A short distance...(an) old man and his wife..
As ever, Beth, an excellent and vivid read! Take care Debbie

It's fonny we can judge people of a former time for what we consider, but I've learned to perhaps leave some things in the hands, but knowing God the way I do, somehow, racial preference doesn't leave room for compassion. It seems to fly in the face of God being a respecter of persons, but any way, God is the ultimate Judge, beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy, Yes, I'm glad it isn't up to be to judge others. I hope Willie got right with God before he died. I can understand why he was the way he was without agreeing with him.

Thank you Jessi. You made my day. I was nervous about posting it because I didn't know how it would be received. To get six stars on the first review is really special.
