This is a great 5 line poem. Succinct but says it all about the heart-breaking partings that war inflicts.
I like how you rhymed lines 1,2 and 4 & lines 3 & 5 fitting it all together naturally. Excellent work.

So many times, our loved ones are asked to step up and fight for their country, leaving behind their families, their lives and everything they have to protect their country. I wonder how they justify not supporting the veterans more when they return home....sometimes disabled, mental broken, and with nothing remaining. So sad!
Hugs, Carol

Thanks, Carol. You are so right about the returning vets who have come back to us with physical and mental problems.

The Holy Bible has promised that the day will come when weapons of war will be converted into implements for farming. Where chemicals will do no harm, but will aid in the growth of life sustaining food and clean drinkable water. I pray for that day to come.

Thanks, Santha. War is one of the things that we poets frequently write about. Just think about a world without war. That would eliminate many poems that we have written. That would be fine with me.

Hard sometimes to comment on these shorter poems - but this was great. Short, sweet and got me right to the point and action, if you will. Quite touching and sad!!

Thanks, Brad. I have a hard time reviewing the shorties, too. I also have trouble writing them.

A well crafted, rhyming 5 line verse. It may be spoken in the style of a former age but it's as current today as it ever was. And beautifully presented. Well done, Paul, and good luck! Debbie

Thanks, Debbie. I hate to write about war, but it is all around us.

You successfully crafted your five-line poem to rhyme every line. It made me think of all the wars going on and how many couples are parted. And these days with civilians in the bombed areas, so many are dying!
Best wishes in the contest!

Thanks, Helen. You are so right about the civilians - especially in Ukraine and Gaza.

Paul,
You've written an exceptional 5 line poem. Every soldier, sailor, airman has gone through this throughout history. In our Army, women sometimes leave their husbands and children to fight. I.e. (the gulf wars).
I like that your poem is open to the latter interpretation too.
Good luck , Paul.
