Hi Pamusart, I am sorry to hear of your affliction. Your poem explores the struggle with racing thoughts and the impact of bipolar disorder on your mental state. The battle with persistent, intrusive thoughts that disturb sleep and concentration must be very upsetting.
I am going to nit-pick here with reference to the final line of your poem. I know the word 'mania' has 3 syllables, and this satisfies the 8 syllable meter of your poem. However, reading it aloud, it seems short and jars a bit. Perhaps consider a word with 3 strong syllables, like 'craziness' or 'horror show'. Suggested line; "until this craziness is through" - just a thought.
Thank you for sharing. - Terry

Pan,
I have bipolar disorder too. Everybody's experience with this "illness@ is different. For the most part, I enjoy my manic phase. I cab write better, but my racing thoughts impede me a little as I cannot write as fast as my thoughts. I feel euphoric for no particular reason. Eight years ago, though, I was hyper-manic and tried suicide. I'm glad to be a survivor.
Your poem spoke to me. In eloquent words you describe by polar to a T.
Tonight I read a story written by Rachelle, and its lesson can be: in life you might want to be one thing, but circumstances lead you to a better, more fulfilling lot.
You're an exceptional writer, and maybe this is your lot.
Bipolar robs people of their dreams sometimes, but there's always another door to be opened.
I don't want to steal the thunder of your work; but I had to comment on it; it made me realize that I'm not alone in dealing with bipolar.
Good luck, Pam!

Hi Pam, today you wrote something brave. I hope the racing thoughts will soon subside. Your poem is filled with good descriptive writing, and I think that it can/will help others who are trying to understand what Bi-Polar is and how it affects the person. Well done; well said.

Your poem was very descriptive and well written. I liked the information at the bottom. My mom had bipolar disorder. I just wrote a story about my life with her. I haven't posted it yet. My mom was mostly depressed. Good job on your poem.

We have several patients in the pharmacy who are diagnosed bipolar. They are up an friendly one day and then the next time they come in, they barely speak. It's a helpless feeling, I'm sure. This was very educational. Helps me relate to them in their struggle. Gretchen

Pam, I don't know how to review this poem. You are so amazingly brave to write something so personal. Is this some sort of multiple personality syndrome? The amazing thing is you know about it and still handle it so positively. Are you being treated for this mania?
BTW, Your rhyming poem is very well written.

No it is not multiple personalities. Just different mental outlooks within the same person. Yes, I am being treated for it and I am doing very well.

Your notes and poem describe your condition well. I can't even imagine what you experience on a daily basis. It sounds frightening to think that your thoughts take control of your mood and ability to become depressed so easily.

My heart breaks for you. My oldest daughter (who passed) was a manic and bi=polar. Life was a real roller coaster. Either she was as happy as a lark or as evil as one can be. She didn't have the depression as much and she worked in the medical field. But she took a lot of vengeance out on me. Probably because she knew I would forgive her regardless. I will keep you in my thoughts always and hope that you can find control with it.
Hugs, Carol

I think you did a really good job on this description. I, too, am bipolar, so I completely understand what you mean. I definitely think you should write about the other side of it, as well.
