Isn't it fascinating with memories the senses can evoke? Hearing is another one. If a song comes on that's a blast from you past, you are transported IMMEDIATELY to the time and place where you heard it and it meant something.

Pumpkin scones sound scrumptious! Did you get the recipe, I hope?

They look delicious, Barry! I like the style of your flash fiction, poetically expressed: The tongue called to the eyes to keep a lookout for the prize (nice internal rhyme). An excellent package! Well done and good luck! Debbie

    Teri,
I have downloaded the recipe from the Australian Womens Weekly Recipe book. I can send to your private email if you like. Alternative is for you to google Pumpkin Scones - Australian Womens Weekly and that should put you on the money. Get back to me. Cheers

You met the brief on this one! I could hear, see, smell, and taste those wonderful scones. Not easily done, you brought all the senses into play. I think I'll head to the kitchen and bake something...

What a clever and endearing way to showcase your Nana's delicious pumpkin scones. Easy to see why this memory lingers. Yes, we never forget a smell. Yum.

Calling all cars! I know what you mean. Scones, muffins, and baked goods are/were my specialty. My family loves them. Now that I'm blind, they help me with the baking and eating, obligingly so. A great dribble flash with sensory appeal. Now, gotta get a blueberry muffin. Sending you my best today as always and my good wishes for the upcoming contest.

It sounds as though Nana's cooking was well worth this marshalling of the senses. I'm not sure if you have siblings, but I dare say they would have had little chance of stealing a march on your highly tuned senses!

Warm biscuits, chocolate chip cookies and baking bread.... the smells leads us toward the food and the taste makes for a taste bud explosion. A perfect setting for this dribble flash dash. Awesome

You are correctamundo! Smell and taste are under-rated in terms of memory inducers. The smell of yeast rising bread and I could almost continue a conversation with my mother in her kitchen 65-70 years past. Shut my eyes and I'm right there. Or stewing tomatoes for canning. Or those detested little fishes called smelt.
Nicely written. It feels like it wants to be a poem.
Best wishes.

    Wayne,
Thanks for your review and I am glad you liked the read. Yes, smell and taste are very often under-rated as a memory trigger. Certainly not in our home. Great to hear you had fond memories of your mother's bread cooking.
Take care and have a wonderful day.
    Cheers
