Sticks & Stones...

Why not be nice to others? It's so much easier.

Thanks to you I've finally figured out what the song "Welcome to the Jungle," by Guns N' Roses is talking about. Tall and slender, squat and plump, and Gorillaized. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I'll have to listen to that song. I only know two songs Guns N' Roses.
    Thanks for reading.

I'm certainly not a Guns N' Roses fan, "Welcome to the Jungle" just started playing in head when I read your line. But it reminded me nothing of the song or band. It's always a pleasure!

This is fun, Maria. I love the twist in the plot where in the end you tell us that the people who were in the story are all animals instead of folks you know. The picture is deceiving because it shows a fat woman on the beach with several thinner women looking on and gaffing at her.
Great idea and entertaining to boot.

That's always the best with 'friends' like this, retaliate with equal disdain tempered with humour! The visual is delightful and is perfectly complemented by your bright and cheerful flash. Well done, Maria, and good luck! Debbie

This seventy-five-word story, Sticks and Stones, has the proper word count and seems to prove that sticks and stones -- and words -- can all hurt a lot more than we knew.

Even among friends there are people who don't know how to use their nice words, eh? The ending here is sad/funny. It's could be read as acceptance of their differences, or an exasperated joke to break the tension. It could also be a bit, "I'll kick down my sandcastle before you do." It's ambiguous. Either way, very relatable. We all have that person in our circle who constantly pushes our buttons.

Aw, Maria, you had me on this one. Adorable and funny in an economy of words. I thought this was a flashback from junior high school. Hahaha! Fantastic entry for the contest and I wish you all the best.

Everyone should be beautifully themselves. I like how you saved the punchline for the end as we realize that we are not talking about people. But it applies to people, too! Best wishes in the contest!

I don't understand this current trend (or perhaps obsession) of evaluating people's worth on what they look like. As you suggest, acceptance and tolerance would go far towards making a world where people can be unique and special, and different - and still be accepted. bst wishes for the contest.
