Now that was fun to read! I kept guessing what might happen next and how the situation would resolve itself. You definitely met the brief on this one. The mystery remains. Can Jalyn's affections be transferred? Well done.

Sadly, this old cowboy is all out of bullets for the week. I'd certainly like to reward your fine story properly. Best of luck in the contest. Outstanding writing, as always. Thanks for sharing.

I don't normally offer suggestions, but since you don't often make mistakes, I thought you might like to know, if you haven't already caught them.

One weas (was) slightly balder than the other.

Well at least Andrew went to heaven dreaming of his harem waiting for him while Carter had something to look forward to at the airport and enjoyed the scent of jasmine into the bargain. This reminds me of Lennon's quote: Life is what happens when you're busy making plans. Well done and good luck! Debbie

How did Carter know Andrew's plane exploded over the Arbian Sea, and that he would be free to introduce himself to Jalyn? Your story is intriguing, and builds quickly and nicely to me, until it reaches the part I misunderstood. I wish you the best in the contest.

He didn't know the plane crashed, but saw the note as a way to perhaps meet someone looking for love as was he.

A very good entry for the contest.
Very good sensory descriptions throughout the short story.
This reader would have liked to be at the airport when the balloons where found,
good luck

Yeah, yippie, what's a great story telling! It's sounded almost like in a real-life story, and in movie too. I enjoyed reading it from the beginning to the end. It's got some humors and so much fun to read, plus, your writing did meet the writing prompt of an exceptional rate. Congrats to a wonderful story. Best of wish to win it!

Well done! How one simple change in our lives can determine the rest of our life without us ever knowing. When we come to that fork in the road, decisions are made. I enjoyed the story. Very well done.

This was very interesting. The way you wove it between the two men was masterfully done. He could try and see what life might have in score for him. More unpacking for me. Karen

Hi

This looks like a good entry for the contest. Good luck with!!

So the guy who dated a lot of women and left them crying,(Andrew) exploded over the Arabian sea, and the guy who's girlfriend said she was going back to John (Carter) lived on to go to the airport and see if he could find The girl with the teddy bear and the balloons

That is justice

But,which one was more lecherous? I think Andrew was, but I also think Carter knew his marriage or relationship with the girl that wrote him the dear John letter was going to be lost to him. So who can blame him for trying to find a girl that might be the one and try for a relationship with her?

You have a fan story glitch here

I enjoyed reading your story

Good job. Thank you for sharing.

I thought this was one of the more interesting entries in the contest, and left with a fun hanging thread. You have some quirks in your writing, eg "they knew not" and "it happened that", that are a little funky and Biblical sounding and keep the readers on their toes.

Your entry seems to be well edited and descriptive, and I didn't see any revisions to make. The death of one of the men is sudden and unexpected. If you were to add a little foreshadowing, it might be interesting to see how that works.

Thanks for the read,

SS

I tried to stay under the word limit. Lately i am being looked at very critically by the CEC and did not want it to be too wordy.

what are you getting DQd for?
reply by the author on 29-Jul-2024
Both were my fault. For the KH poem contest, I wanted to see if a 2-word poem would be accepted. It wasn't. Now I know a poem has to be bigger than 2 words but still don't know how many words comprise a poem. For the 1200-word dash, I was told my entry did not have a beginning, conflict, and resolution. I feel in 2100 words you can do an amusing or interesting character study but if you expect it to have all the ingredients in a short story or novel, you will end up with mediocre work.

I seem to recall being similarly DQd for a story that they said didn't follow the plot rules. Except, mine did. The word requirements though are pretty black and white.

They are. I just have to learn to follow the rules!
