Did Dewey leave the house? Or have the towns people finally got enough of him. You left a great hook here, making sure we come back to read. Of course, I would anyway. I like this story and you're doing a great job writing it.

Thanks, Barbara. Dewey is still just dreaming about getting even with his dad. This little episode will just make the boys happy. Gretchen

Well, I hate it that this old cowboy is all out of bullets so early in the week, but it's nice not to be 70 reviews behind like the last few weeks. LOL. Now, I'm just hoping Dewey did the teaching. Thanks for sharing.

No. Alas, Dewey did not, but someone sure scratched him up. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Well done. I bet he was attacking that lady and someone caught him at it! You are doing well with this rather sad tale. I look forward to where it is headed.

Such amazing tension, Gretchen, literally twisting my stomach! By now, I'm praying for the worst death possible for him, a long protracted one. It sounds (teasingly) like this is the beginning. Love that imagery of the sky resembling a fresh bruise, so powerfully apt. Masterful! Take care Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. I think the boys will be happy seeing their daddy all torn up. Lol. Gretchen

You could cut that meal-time tension with a knife. Their premonitions of disaster are unfolding. Dewey is not a dummy - he has rigged up something to be a "surprise" for his father. Can't wait to read more. Excellent writing.

This is an interesting twist. I didn't expect this turn, even though we don't know exactly what the 'turn' is yet. Nice, suspenseful build-up. Good work.
Best wishes.

Thanks, Wayne. Sometimes people push back at a bully. It was time Matthew got that reminder. Glad you enjoyed this. Gretchen

Such tension building in the dialogue here Gretchen and you could the air with a knife! I particularly enjoyed these inventive and lines:

(Daddy finishes his stew and stands up, shoving his chair back so hard that it teeters on two legs before settling back on all four).

(The sky is getting all purple, like a fresh bruise).

And I wonder what happened to Father? It sounds like he has had a dose of his own medicine here. Whatever happened, he didn't see it coming and the surprise that was promised has been delivered.

Another fine chapter in your story and as always your words are a joy to read Gretchen, love Dolly x

We all know it was Dewey. There is no excuse for a woman or man hurting their children. Ever. I hope their daddy really suffers. I hope Dewey beats him every day. Your writing is very strong and drew up feelings. Karen

No, Dewey is sleeping. But someone pushed back. Now we have to figure out where he was and what he was doing. Thanks, Karen. Gretchen

Wow, you are the master of tension! It's like listening to a tea kettle whistle, and no one wants to be the one to take it off the stove. Absolutely phenomenal job with this chapter. Can't wait to see who hurt the bastard. xoxo

Thank you, Rachelle. Loved the tea kettle line. Lol. I'm glad you liked this. I'm gonna be honest. I'll be glad when I'm done with this one. So, dark and unhappy. But, gotta finish it. Thanks again for the encouragement. Gretchen
