I loved reading this .I love reading glimpses from personal lives .Somehow it brings the reader and a writer closer because very often we can relate to the situations. It confirms that where ever you are -US UK AsIA people are basically..well human Thanks for sharing..

One of the things my wife and I miss the most in our advanced years is having a dog. We are fortunate to have visits from our granddogs from time to time.

I still have a dog and probably always will. I can't imagine life without a dog. Thank you for the kind support.

I agree with you, dogs and cats are good for children. Our first family had a dog who died about the time we were beginning to get the second family. We had cats until the year before the great grandchild was born. I can tell you smaller dogs are better and if you are lucky they will pick one place to leave their poop in the yard. Cats are great, although not calicos as far as I can tell. Ours is soooo temperamental.

I agree with you, dogs and cats are good for children. Our first family had a dog who died about the time we were beginning to get the second family. We had cats until the year before the great grandchild was born. I can tell you smaller dogs are better and if you are lucky they will pick one place to leave their poop in the yard. The reasoning of a determined kid can hardly be dealt with without simple shutting it down with solid facts. I see that did not work here, so the possibility of a dog may not be far off.

I'm glad I had a six star for this. It is too funny. Eleanor is pretty good with her comments and reasoning. She backs up what she's saying very well, although this conversation is probably a common occurrence. I love how she brings in Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood for part of her argument. I also like your son's explanation that you always cleaned the yard after your dog. Then you add to the conversation. By the end I was laughing. Thanks for sharing it.

"Mom, you're not helping!" LOL How cute. There's no excuse that a child can't debunk when it comes to getting a dog. and also....maybe the neighbors do like dog poop. LOL Nicely done.

BOO is reading...like the title, Reminiscing...Andrew works at Barnes Jewish Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Well. BOO lives in Missouri too! Not that far away. Eleanor sat in her car seat and said, "Daddy, do you see the furry dog?" Kids absorb everything on their young years. They see, question and learn. And remember words grown ups say.
"Andrew, dogs make really good friends. You boys always had a dog growing up, remember? The girls need a dog."
"Mom, you're not helping!"
Hum, looks like mother is on the kid's side. Just a matter of time before the little girl gets a dog. Or, she might be allowed a cat since a cat poops in a litter box and doesn't need to be walked everywhere like a dog.

They have two cats, already. LOL I happen to be huge lover of dogs. Every novel I write has at least one dog. LOL Thank you for the support.

Ah, so you were playing the Devil's advocate for the girls. Dogs do teach unconditional love. But there is that whole dog poop thing. This was a very refreshing post. Ever since my husband and I got married we've had dogs. Life without them isn't the same. This was fun. Gretchen

That's how I had planned on starting this book, but.... Eleanor had to have her story told. I will go back and do that. LOL Thank you for the support.

I can see both sides of the debate. My husband has allergies so we have no pets but my children, once grown and on their own, do have pets. I think they are trying to recapture their deprived youth. Haha
