That was a shameful chapter in our country's history. We will probably never know all the heartbreaks that followed those good people on their forced journey. Of course, there were many scourges between settlers and Indians, but many were connected to the ownership of land.

Thank you. I doubt if the bother having written deeds to the land but the probably didn't need them until we came on the scene. Thanks for the review.

Wow, you've captured this scene very well, Beth! I've never heard of the Trail of Tears so thank you for the notes and the fact that you've actually driven along it which makes it so much more real to the reader. Good alliteration and evocative second line which for me drives the verse. Well done and good luck! Debbie

I honestly don't remember where I heard that joke, but it definitely was NOT from a student. I stay away from any kind of "questionable" jokes with them!! That's very thin ice these days!

I agree! How sad it must have been to have the immigrants come in and chase them from their own land that they had lived on for many many decades. Politicians were arrogant people back then too!

Thank you Carol. There is place where many of them lived ont he outskirts of Chattanooga called Red Clay. It was a big Indian settlement. Chattanooga was settled by a halfbreed named John Ross. He became Chief of the Cherokee. Chattanooga was called Ross's Landing.

Thank you Patricia. Yes it was painful to give up your home and be forced to walk such a long distance. Many died along the way.
