This limerick was fun and funny! You got the suggested syllable counts right, and "reptile dysfunction" was hilarious. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Walking my dog by the junction
Having a canine malfunction
He jumped on a snake
A bite he did take
Now he has reptile dysfunction

Very nice limerick. The form and syllable counts are fine. I would suggest, only because some voters are strict, adding end punctuation to your lines. Why? Because this entry is posted as prose. Good luck in the contest.

This humorous limerick will surely attract attention with the contest voting committee. You tell a brief story about your doggie with an unexpected twist in the end. Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

    Thank you LJ.
Thank you for this great review I hope the judges all laugh when they read it. Silly and funny are the greatest tools of Limericks. I am grateful for your positive words and good wishes.

I loved your Limerick here, but your metre is slightly off.

I suggest this:

(When) walking my dog by the junction
He (suffered) a canine malfunction
He jumped on a snake
A bite he did take
(This doggy has) reptile dysfunction.

Good luck with the contest!

Love Dolly x x x

Hi Dolly. Thank you for your suggestions. This was written with a 99559 meter because it was perfect with the polysyllabic words. However, the stated rules call for an 88558 meter. I had to modify the Limerick to get it to fit the rules.

I didn't realise there was a syllable restriction, but you could achieve it and still keep a good metre, good luck x x x

I love this. You actually made me laugh out loud (although I doubt your dog with "reptile dysfunction" is enjoying it as much). Excellent use of that pun to both rhyme and provide a nice dash of humor.

Hi Michelle. Doggy will be OK. Thank you so much for your enjoyable and positive review. I am truly grateful.

Most limericks manage to screw up the syllables or the iambics, and most puns get groans and not laughs. You hit it out of the park on all counts.

You are right about iambs and syllables. Most of the Limericks on FS do not meet the standards. Thank you again.
reply by Michele Harber on 25-Sep-2024
You're welcome. Sadly, I've been guilty of messing up iambs myself, which is the main reason I didn't enter the contest.

Limericks are not easy to writer per the "rules." It requires careful word usage.

And the ability to count (syllables) and pronounce (iambs). It's so easy to hear our work as we want it to read, and not as it actually reads to anyone who didn't just write it.
