I see the symbolism of the River Styx in your poem. It's a clear metaphor of from the end of life and the beginning of eternity for the passenger. The last lines. Indicate to me who the passenger is. It is well written with an interesting metaphor. Good luck in the contest.

The image sets a mood of mystery. Nicely thought out and I like the last piece of conversation." my father owns both sides of the river" Good one. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a wonderful day.

a powerful and moving poem about a man who faces death without fear or hesitation as he knows where he will end up on the other side and is not afraid of what will be

Excellent poem about courage and faith I love the myth about the river Styx.
The dead person it's not afraid of death because of his faith.
Well done.

I treasure your reviews, I feel that I am on the right "poetic" track after your reviews.

What a great contemplation D&V, the thought that nothing escapes God's notice, no one can hide from His eyes on this plain or the next, the boatman still knows where to take us on our final Journey, beautifully written my friend(s) blessings Roy

DonaldVicki, one way of looking at this is that one does not have to be fearful if the faith is strong -- the father owns both sides. But to be at that stage, the traveler had to take the long and weary path-- his repentance. I think I am rambling but it does has so many meanings (interpretations) to it. Best for the free verse contest.

Your poem presents a picture of someone who lived in a world of sin, and later made deliberate steps to repent and find God across the river of death where life eternal shines bright. Thanks for sharing your inspiration, dear. An inspiring poem, well penned.

Pretty damn deep. The river Styx was the river of hate. If you entered the water, it might turn you into a god. But, more likely you would just die. My father owns both sides of the river is spiritual even if it isn't meant to be. Good job.

Thank you Eean for the six, you are very kind and generous. The original title was "The River of Death" but "Crossing the River Styx" has a more poetic ring to it.
