I like your poem very much and enjoyed reading it. The older I get, the more I miss the past days~so much has changed as, I imagine, every generation feels as they see all the new and the old fades away. There is good and bad in every age and your author notes give a good explanation. Your poem has wonderful imagery. Well done!

This is very well written and I enjoyed listening to it. It is a shame what's going on in our country right now. It is a shame that young people feel like they have to go out and burn bridges and top statues and do all sort of ridiculous things to make a point. They would be much better off if they go to school, get their education and learn to express their own feelings and not have to be led by a group of mobsters. Patricia.

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on the poem. My point here is that life and history are complicated, nothing is black and white, and while the iconoclasts might sweep things away, those that get swept away have feelings just as valid and those that do the sweeping. These kids today mostly come from broken homes, they have no ties to family values or have no sense of belonging to society, and they just go where the social media wind blows them so that they can feel they are a part of something. One day its black lives matter, then its the Palestinians, tomorrow it will be something else. estory

I think you may have penned a moment in time many would rather forget as rioting can be rather scary. The Russian and French revolution resulted in many deaths of innocence people and people's lives changed forever. A poignant write, love Dolly x

Thanks for the excellent review and I think you got exactly what I was trying to say. History is full of iconoclasts, but when they sweep things away, they ignore the feelings in some that are just as valid. estory

I am so sad as I read this beautiful poem...maybe because I, too, am remembering? Thank you for making me think and remember...our memories can be good...and bad at helping us to live our lives.

I pray things improve for all Earth's dwellers.
Blessings,
GA

There are glimpses of things happening all around us that make us sad, but if we look for it, we see that many people seem carried away by the joy of just being alive and seem to embrace the change and look forward to the future. Others seem only caught up in the things that are happening that bring us down and always focus on the negative. I guess melancholy personalities naturally lean in that direction. There may come a time when we are forced into a horrible situation, but I prefer not to rush it.

If we tear down our monuments, whether a good or bad part of our history we are attempting to change history and not learn from it. We need to remember and learn from our bad history. Thank you for sharing this poem with us.

Thanks for the excellent review and for your perspective on the theme here. History is complicated, it is not as black and white as those who manipulate the media would have us believe, for their own ends. My point is that the iconoclasts who sweep things away, don't consider the feelings of those who are just as valid as they are. We need more empathy and less demagogery estory

It's difficult to wonder how things came to be as they are now. What happened to all the support and love that flowed throughout our country when 9/11 happened? How did these things change so quickly and now we are so divided -- and judgemental about everyone and everything. the rich are applauded for their success and the poor are trampled upon. It's a sad world.
Hugs, Carol
