I have lived among those classified as addicts, and aside from the addiction they are not less than human or less worthy of being treated as such. I thought this was very well done.

I feel the same way, even though I've not known many in this situation. I did have a friend who was years ago though, and I definitely did not consider her less than human. She was beautiful, but just down on her luck with a b*tch for a mother. I thank you again for your review and comments. Bless you xoxoxo

I think we can all make mistakes and then it's a judgement call whether to learn from the mistake and walk away or with ignorance, tempt fate and make another mistake to compound the last one. This was a very well written piece.

So right. Some just don't learn; they kill themselves with self-hatred. I don't feel that a hardened drug addict actually blames anyone else. It's the self-blame, and hatred, that eventually kills them. Thanks so much for a lovely review! xoxoxo

A very sad poem, and regrettably in these days not an unusual story.
It was written well and the song titles were woven in neatly and without disturbing the rhythm of the poetry.

Very well done as usual. Substance abuse of course, is a disease and those with addictive personalities are most vulnerable. It is so difficult for an addict to recover and to stay off the drug. So much support is needed. I am so glad that my kids escaped this awful curse.

I sure hope mine escape it. I wonder if I should put a more graphic pic with this, but then I think we've all seen and heard enough unpleasantness! I'm glad you liked this one, and thanks for a great review! xoxoxo

Thanks so much Wendy! You're only the 2nd one to point out the "songs" I've included in this, but the only one who knew them! Maybe this is a sign of "maturity" that we know these songs?...Oh well! Again, I appreciate your kind review and rating! xoxoxo

I've never taken a drug in my life, but I can only imagine what addiction is like. I think you capture those feelings quite well here, all while including several song titles in the process, many of which I never heard of, LOL. Good job.

Ah, don't worry 'bout the bits of songs I used in this! But for your info, they're Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds (Beatles), Space Odyssey (David Bowie - where I mention Major Tom), Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd), and those other mentions of The Needle - well, I'm sure there'd be a tune out there either called The Needle, or has strong reference to it!

But, the above aside, thank you very much for a great review, and I'm real glad you liked this one! xoxoxo

alpacalady,
Your poem vividly describes a life turned into nothing by drugs:

The tracks and bruises on her arm
The needle high her only goal
On slab of cold in endless slumber

Creative statements
Overall good writing
