Hello alpacalady, what amazing rhyme good vision of ravens and crows. May I ask where you find out that either of these birds are messengers for the devil.?
I never knew of such a myth.

Looks like we have another Edgar Allen Poe

excellent poem

Actually Gert, they aren't messengers of the devil! this poem was done on the basis of how they look, rather than what myth actually says about them. I did mention this in my notes I think, as I didn't want people to think I was giving the raven bad press, so to speak. From what I know, their purpose is to appear to those who are about to face major change in their lives. Beyond that, I'm not sure! While I think they're the most stunning looking birds, next to the Eagle, I still did my poem on the basis (as said above) of how they appear. But on that, apparently in Britain they are known as messengers of the devil (remembered this from a previous review), so I guess it depends on what country you live in!

Anyway, off the topic of the raving above, I thank you very much for your review and comments. And by the way, it's great to see you again! Have missed you round here - hope all is well! Will talk again soon my friend xoxoxoxo

Good write about evil looking birds interesting background they are reported harbingers of doom and it was the raven in Edgar Allen poe's poetry that played a major part excellent write malachi1206

Crows are different birds and although look similar to ravens they have orang beaks. You know there is a myth that murders of ravens and swallows are meant to carry souls back and forth between world.

I thought this was a very good poem. I can find nothing to throw tomatoes at here.

I am glad you told me this! I checked thru the web to see if there was some "difference" mentioned between crows and ravens, but couldn't find one. I'm glad yo liked this review, and by th eway, if you HAD thrown tomatoes, would they have been fresh or mouldy??

Again, thanks for a great review my friend xoxoxxo

Although the raven does not really bring messages from the devil, I agree that their apperance is dark and so does a lot of movies. I think this is a very good descriptive poem that flowed well. Portrayed a dark and mysterious creature very well. Excellent Robbin

thank you so much Robbin. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I didn't really want to give ravens "bad press" as such, but their appearance does lend itself to evil...

Thank you for a great review! xoxoxoxo

Shortly after my mother died, a raven made eye contact with me as I drove on the freeway. He and I met with our eyes as he came within inches of my windshield. Then, whoosh! He was off. It made me duck as I drove- scary. Then, a week or so later, I was driving home, in mourning, crying. A crow or raven dropped dead in front of my car- a few feet ahead of me. People told me they were messages, but I have no idea. It was weird though. I like them too- eerie or majestic, they are lovely creatures.

Your poem is beautiful. I am in awe of the way you use words to draw an image. I especially love the line- My heart awaits; it will rejoice
In plaintive tune, with soulful voice

Nice job.
Ellie

Well thanks for your awesome review Ellie. I am sorry to hear about your mother. But isn't it strange that the raven came when you were in mourning? Goodness, that is an eerie tale.

Again, thank you for a wonderful review. And I'm glad you like these stunning birds. They truly are awesome! xoxoxxozxo

I love the poem. Well done. It flows well and is a wonderful read. The morning we found out that my MIL was going to be leaving us soon there was a crow on the top of a pole near her little apartment. As I came out of the house to go to the hospital he looked at me and have his lonesome caws. I knew before I got there the news would be bad. Thanks for the great poem about this messenger. Jeanette

A sad story Jeanette. But maybe the Raven was trying to tell you that all would be well - had your MIL been suffering? Maybe that's what he was trying to tell you. Who knows? They do engender fear and all things bad with their appearance don't they?

Thank you again for a lovely review. And I hope your little one is doing fine...xoxoxoxoxo

Your desciptive words work very well as your poem flows from beginning to end. The rhymes are well done. I would not change anything here.

Hi Alpacalady, I read this and thought there was no need to apologize for portraying the crow in this way..here in England we all see them as the Devils messenger..majestic as they may be ( you couldn't imagine the devil sending his messages through a budgie or a penguine could you??.) Anyway a really good poem with a great flow and rhyming scheme.
Best wishes,
Chris.

Thank you Chris! And no, I couldn't imagine the Devil sending a budgie, penguine or pidgeon to deliver his messages! I'm glad you saw what I was trying to say though, both in poem and notes. Again, thank you for a thoughtful and supportive review! xoxoxxoo

The metaphors which you have used in your poem are very cleverly majestic! How wonderful to say,"O winged Prince of Darkest Hour "
Very emphatic.

Well, thank you very much poeand hungry! I confess to liking some of Poe's work, not that I've read much, but I bought a book of his years ago which had a host of short stories, and I enjoyed every dark and macabre tale in it! So it appears I have a very well developed dark side like he did! I'm glad you liked this poem, and again, thank you for a wonderful review! xoxoxoxo
