I love this sentence! Sheeple indeed. A very interesting and indeed scary story and I really hope your imagination is overactive. :-)

Unfortunately, I don't think your imagination is far from the truth, Zee. And very topical with the looming financial crisis. But of course, you hit on all the bases--politics, terrorism, religion, etc.

Calls were made, players played, and closed-door handshakes abound. (because you'd just used past and past perfect tense, I thought 'abound' might sound better in past tense)
Bernanke: Approve bailout or risk recession (I'd consider making this even stronger by replacing 'recession' with 'Depression')
Never heard 'sheeple' before. If that's your invention, it's classic.
Best piece I've read on here in quite awhile.
