There must have been many wives and girlfriends who had to cope with the guilt men who survive war carry within. Real life, to them, was on the battlefield with their brothers in arms. Back to civilian life, they carry the scars, not always of battle but forever 'why' preys on their mind and those who died do indeed, to them seem better men. Nice to read of one who, through the strength and belief of a good woman, became reconciled.

Hi alpacalady....I defy anyone who has ever stood beside the bed of loved one and watch them die, to read this with a dry eye. I certainly could not. I lost my father, my husband and my mother in that order and each time I stood there watching their life ebb. I could just scream as I used my last six today and this poem is worthy of that and even more. I am not usually a fan of long poetry but this one captured me immediately and never let go until the last line. You wrote this very well, your rhyme, flow and structure is well done....bravo and roses at your feet! Blessings....chey

Wow this a gut wrenching poem I am a man who may shortly be in this situation, you see I have a very sick wife. Your poem tells a lovely story of a man who finds life again after knowing the Hell of war and he finds that life through this sweetheart/wife. Open nite a blast. Followed some one who went on for 20 minutes about soldiers dying in Irag and Iraqi's dying in Iraq. Dis 5 mniutes introing what he was going to read. People were leaving. I was next. I rocked The applause was terrific,. They were probably glad I was finished. LOL Therapist came. 2 little boys I know whose dad is in writers critique came to here me. Lorraine to pics. Gonna right a thank you to everyone who helped, with a pic. Went to place where I know a lot of people from Dart leagues and karaoke. Ran into guy i know and danced. He's a retired cop. Sings great had a wonderful time. Then on the way home car quit. 2X took 1 1/2 hours to go 8 miles. It hapepems every time but the fun outweighed the fun. jm
