Oh yes I agree that trauma can make a day memorable but in all the wrong ways I'm afraid. Doctor Charming doesn't make it any easier, proving that even doctors, as arrogant as they can be, are still human. They can still be asses, beautifully written Beth, blessings Roy

Thank your Roy. The doctor's attitude was so unexpected. My daughter who was a nurse who had been around him said he was disliked by everyone. I still find the whole thing amusing in retrospect.

Hahaha, I'm sorry, Beth, but you do make me laugh. I know it was not a laughable matter at the time, but you write it so wonderfully funny. And then imagine to be matched by your son? It's just not fair!
Just a minor thing: memorable enough on their on = own.
Loved it, Ulla:)))

Please don't apologize for laughing. That was the point of writing it. It is funny in retrospect and hope everyone would laugh and know the best laid plans often go astray.

Wow! Excellent writing. Good work.
What a lousy Christmas. And yes, that son-in-law should have been going home with a neck brace as well as a cast!
Best wishes.

Thank you again Wayne. I'm so glad you liked my story. I always prefer the day after Christmas. The house is clean and the left over taste better when I'm not so tired to enjoy them. I appreciate the stars.

I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, Beth, but it is hilarious in your telling the story all these years later. I'm curious about the metal object the doctors saw in your x-rays. That sure was strange. I'm glad you can laugh about it all now, and share the laughter with us.

Thank you, Judy. I wondered about that strange object too, but once I worked in hospital and part of my job was to hang the x-rays. The x-rays had a tiny solid metal marker in the raw film to indicate how they were to be hung. I wonder if maybe the nurse didn't have the x-ray turned wrong when she took my foot and the maker showed up in my heel. Maybe they were new on the job and didn't think of that. The doctor didn't seem curious about it.

You?re most welcome, Beth. I did think probably something like that happened. Good thing they didn?t start digging to find out! Lol

I would have put in a complaint against that doctor. He was inappropriate on so many levels. I do have to ask about getting a permanent case right away. I thought the swelling had to go down before one could get one. At least that's what happened with my wrist and all the broken bones my boys had growing up. I always enjoy reading your posts.

Thank you Barbara. The doctor was bad in so many ways he might have done something uncalled for by putting a plaster cast on a fresh wound. It didn't seem to do any permanent damage, but what you say makes sense.

Proof that not everything memorable is good. LOL. But dinner was cooked and all were feed. And you all were able to spend time together for the holiday. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Ric. I love all my memories and wouldn't want to forget any of them. I especially like the ones that make me laugh without actually feeling the pain. My daughter a nurse and after 30 years, she is yet to witness anyone fall out of wheelchair.

Beth, what a wild story! I could almost feel your pain as you described the events of Christmas Eve. In spite of all the mishaps, you were still able to cook a meal for the family.

I know it had to have been a horrible experience, but you turned it into a humorous story to entertain us. This should be in a contest.

Great job,
Rhonda

Thank you Rhonda. I'm so glad you found it humourous. I wrote it back when I wanted to be the next Erma Bombeck and I was hoping to put some humor into it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It does seem when one thing goes wrong in my family that is just beginning. LOL

Yes, those aliens come back for the implanted metal pieces because they contain information on what humans think and do:-) Loved that paragraph.

The paragraph that begins, "They put me in a little curtained off section." The last line of the paragraph, remove the word "to" after "into"

I don't think you need "rude" and "ill mannered" together - I would eliminate one.

The doctor that did the follow-up, he was the same doctor that set the cast originally? He really was a jerk, wasn't he? You should have given him a crown with your crutch, lol!

This is very well written - you could be a standup comedian with this stuff. Isn't that what comedians talk about? The misfortunes of their lives. This was good stuff, Beth.

Thank you, Pam. I'm sorry it took so long to answer this great review. Even the bad things are funny after enough time passes. I'm so glad you enjoyed this. Yes, it was the same doctor. He was total jerk, and I would have been justified in crowning him with my crutch. Maybe someone has by now because my nurse daughter said everyone hated him at the hospital.

Thank you DR. I know things are likely to happen when you least expect it. It is a holiday I might have forgotten about if so much hadn't got wrong.

Never a dull moment for you, huh. Thanks for sharing and glad I came upon this that I possibly missed the first time around. Lucky to say, there were no spags.

Thank you for the review. Not many dull moments. That is the way to keep life interesting, don't you think? It may be painful but not boring.
