If we could just remember the good ones and programme the others out, that would be wonderful. Nice verse. I just felt that you used the word heart a bit much, but that's just me.
Good work
Cheers

I so empathise with this, PUPA.

My memory is useless and I remember next to nothing about the past - especially before I left school. It's not instant senility - I've always been that way. I have 3 lovely sisters and a lovely daughter who often remind me of things and lukilyy they find my absent-mindedness amusing rather than me being in need of more meds. LOL.

You express your situation so well, and I love the 'soapflakes' metaphor.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. ;-)

Love, Ray xx

I am also glad I am not the only one, Ray! What you describe here is exactly what I go through and I've always been like that too. Yes, they find it amusing when they remind me of myself and I can't remember!!
Thanks for your very encouraging comments, made me feel better!

Sometimes memories are too crowded so we tend to forget things. Like a computer full of old files and junk mails. Writing down things might become a solution. Anyway it is a good thing that meeting old friends prompts you to write this inspiring poem.

pupa,
memory is a funny thing. sometimes it will show up when we least expect it. once i tried to remember what had happened to a certain car my mom had. i was under thirty at the time. a couple of months later i remembered. my little brother took it and crashed it. he was thirteen at the time. sometimes we just have to let them come to us. write it down. that always helps.
love,
barbara

Yes Barbara, I know what you mean. But when my friends remember a boyfriend I once had, and I don't, it drives me crazy!!

Memories are indeed fleeting. We retain what has touched us in some way. Everything is still there in the memory but is touched when a certain word is spoken or a scent is smelt of a scene reminds us of something in our past.
Well written

This is a very well written poem. How often are we reminded that something that was important to someone else, had little meaning in our life.

Yes, I agree, but about something important happening to us, still forgotten! Thanks for your kind review.

Pupa, that was a very nice and passionate poem.
I am out of state for several days and will not be able to review as much. Should you need me to look at something special, please send a PM.
Thanks, Loyd

Our memories are the only things we really have. So it is important to keep them near. I have written about things and have painted scenes to help remember.

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

A poem of beautiful words of
the thoughts of losing memories
of the past, like soap flakes
that disappear. What a great
juxtaposition, lost memories to
soap flakes that disappear.
Your entire poem floats like
the soap flakes you write about,
and are hauntingly poignant in
the thoughts of ever losing
memories that are the joys, the
tears, the hopes and desires of
a lifetime before that you want
to warm you, surround you, to
comfort you as the years slip
by.
A beautiful artistically presented
poem written with warmth and tenderness
in every word as it flows down the
page with those thoughts and memories
that you never want to lose.
Well done

The timing of this poem is amazing. Because I recently thought the same thing. That the memories are indeed fleeting. It is so hard to believe that memories are so easily lost. Your poem does a wonderful job of showing that. But it doesn't fall down into a sad little hole. It is upbeat in the end. I like that. And I like how you wrote this. A wonderfully upbeat poem about a rather sad subject.
