Jimi, WOW!! and WOW!! Just brilliant my friend, now that one touches the heart and stirs the emotions exceptional piece of writing friend, reality is a bitter pill to swallow for some but no matter how deep one buries there head in the sand it is still there and man is to blame and he will NEVER change, it's what we do and that is the saddest truth of all, I love that you took Hymn weaved your magic and produced a stunning poem, only you Jimi, only you!

This unfortunately will be the scene for thousands of troops at Christmas. I like this line in particular, with the double meaning of "muster" :
The song keeps playing as we try to muster a smile

Excellent poem; good luck in the contest.

findingmyroom, thank you so very very much for stopping by to read and review my offering. Yes I do not like the owrd muster too. It was originally garner a smile, but a reviewer suggested muster and so I changed it. again thank you so much.. jlsavell

Good luck with your entry in the Holiday Poetry contest. What a graphic painting! I liked the way that you wove reality with the traditional song of Christmas. Christmas is a time of caring and families etc - what about the other side? Those brave men in foreign lands, no mother or father to hold them, cradling an AK47 instead of their children. Well done poet friend.

Very powerful words that grab
the heart and squeeze with the
sad reality of this truth. On and
on it goes and I fear that somewhere
there will always be a war.
Coincidence...we both seem to have posted
O Holy night at the same time.

Dear JL Savell,
Oooh that was so touching since the very first time
I saw the picture and the title. They were completely matched each other. I could grab the very sad and lonely feelings in the soldiers hearts. I sat with tears in my eyes reading this poem. Thank you for sharing me this very touching poem.
warmly, amel.

"O' Holy Night, Beyond that Door" is a beautifully written and stated poem. There is always the hope for peace and the sooner the better. There is too much hate. Perfectly written with good rhythm and rhyme throughout.

Steve, I am doing well, other than being extremely busy with the everyday happenstance of life. As you know I have been off the site for a while..each year I think, I have to leave,,I cannot keep up.but then i would be leaving such great friends and talent like you. Are you going to try and publish this Book. Fata..well I just do not know..I think I should start on on The Counts story..everyone has forgotten about her but you and Hitcher!!!

Don't leave! OMG, no! You bring such warmth, appreciation and talent to FanStory. Besides that, being here reminds you of Fata and your love for writing. :) What's a dream worth? It's hard to put a value on something like that, isn't it? And you're so talented too.

I do plan to publish this, although I'm going to try the agent route. Self publishing will be the last step, and even that will come after spending $$$ getting professional help with the editing. That's only if I self publish. If I get lucky and get an agent, then I'll listen to their advice. The end goal is to turn this into a screenplay. We'll see. It's already a huge success because writing this has been so much fun. Partly because of the great feedback and part because I was immersed in the incredible world of Stan. The ending will be fantastic if I can get down on paper what I see.

    Happy Holidays! :)

I think this is the best poetry I have read on this site. I was amazed at the way you intertwined the Christmas Hymn into your own words. This was great writing. Anne 1204

Your poem magnificently portrays what our troops most undoubtedly feel. I enjoyed the way you tied Christmas carols into the thros of war. Well done! Judy

This was wonderful. There's nothing so conflicting as being a soldier and having to deal with those feeling, the killing and the hate, versus love. Well said here, I hope they all come home soon. Great job.

Excellent job! "But, as soldiers, we pray for His peace beyond that door" really gets to me. It's not just soldiers who are praying that (again!) this year, is it? Your poem takes the trite out of Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men. I really like the way you conveyed your message by incorporating lines from famous hymns. Excellent!
