morning sis, what sadness fills my heart reading this story based on reality, it makes me shudder to think we belong to this race called human beings, what ever happened to the humane ness of mankind for his fellow man.
such a story leaves me cold, imagining how and why we could be so cruel to our own flesh and blood , regardless of status in this world of differences. what happended to that notion 'do unto others as you would have others do unto you' . a wonderfully written story sis, of truths and reality in this ruthless day and age we all dwell in planet earth. hugs and luv from Melxxxxxxxxxx

    Sis,

Seeing the news, I could not believe the clip as people merely walked by or looked at the man and did nothing. Beyong my perception. Smiles, Sis

This is a terrific piece, Carol. What happened to the woman Billy was trying to save when he was killed? Why didn't she call for help, or did she just run away? Well done.

Regards,
Sharesy

    Sharesy,

Unfortunately, according to the news clip, she just disappeared and didn't even call for help. Hope she can live with herself, knowing he died helping her. Smiles, Carol

Carol, another of your well written and emotional stories. The apathy of people towards the homeless and destitute often leaves me wondering what has happened to human kindness. This is an emotional journey, yet, in some way, it depicts that he may be in a better place. He will be with his mother.
Warmest regards, my friend, Marijke

This is a good story that says so much without saying it. We have to be willing to get our hands dirty in order to really help someone in need..

Well done, Buck

I can't imagine this happening in the small place I live, but I know it does in larger communities. Your most spontaneous writes always seem to work so well. The sad poignancy came across well on a number of levels. Great entry in the contest, Carol. Good luck. Ash.

Hey, there's a life outside this place...I think? Better tell me about it--I'm not sure anymore. Crickets still crick, birds still sing, cars still go bang, right?Cheers, Carol :)

I'm so sorry your character didn't find the support from passersby that he needed. I hope that sort of thing doesn't happen often. Nicely written. Good luck on the contest.

I can't believe that people are that callous. You hear it all the time in the big cities, but it's still hard for me to believe. great job.

Hi Carol,

I read this story, really nice. Has a bunch of things I like, active dialog, use of a strong scene, really nice. The story works too. Emotional, sad light of human suffering. You made the reader care about Bill.

The afterlife sort of angel's singing, I like that angle in this story.

Your excellent ghost story held my interest and made fine reading.
What surprised me the most was the despicable news item on the TV which inspired your story.
I can't imagine it happening in the USA.
It is quite common in some metros of overpopulated countries.

Another sad story of the homeless. And then I found out that this is an entry for the ghost story contest. Well done Carol, so sad as a ghost, the narrator saw how indifferent people were.

    Belinda,

It was horrifying to watch it unfold on a news cast...Heartless people ...I pray they never face a similar circumstance. Carol
