What a lovely story, Carol. You carried us through all the stress and pain, both physical and emotional, and then threw some humour at us, sharing the hope of better tomorrows. Well done.
One little thing; The quotation mark is missing at the beginning of this sentence. Please, Katie, I have so much work to finish before the truck arrives."

I like happy endings or at least the hope for better ones...Glad you enjoyed the story, Judy. Thanks for the kind review and I have fixed the quotation marks.
Smiles, Carol

Our perspective of our parents is always changing. When we are little they are our everything. As we mature we tend to stereotype them and then suddenly when we have matured they are real people who think, sometimes like us. A good portrayal of a changing attitude.

That's so true Ralf...Our minds and thoughts about things and people change as we walk down the path of life...Things take on a different color as the sun begins to set. Smiles, Carol

So many heartbreaks in this world of ours, there isn't hardly enough time to write about them all. But in this circle of life, we just have to wait around hoping the upside comes soon. Thanks for sharing.

This is a very heart-warming story, about carrying all kinds of loads, about seeing the light shining through darkness, about the love, vivacity and wisdom of children, and ultimately, about moving on, literally and figuratively. Exceptional story, beautifully written.

Dearest Mama Bear,
What a great little story! It engages with its twists and turns, zooming in and out of the past, then hovering beautifully to the present and the future. You have a gift with kids that is evident in all your pieces. It is difficult to write with oneself as the protagonist, yet you did a marvellous job.
Well done!
Cheers,
Baby Bear

This is a good feel-good story. Mommy is struggling with depression after her husband was killed by a drunk driver. She's moving to live near her parents. Is this supposed to be a story in itself or part of a novel?

Please forgive me for this cut and paste response. I've been having a bit of a thriller myself - been clearing trees, shrubs and weeds and a ringer called poison ivy jumped into the match. I lost and my eyes now resemble a prize fighter--swollen to the max. I can squint today so I wanted to let you know I appreciate your reading Thank you for your continued support and understanding...Smiles, Carol

A well written first chapter. The title suits not only moving back home but also the road taken by one's life. The mother and daughter scene goes on naturally and it is vividly described.

Sounds like you have the beginning of a great emotional adventure here, Carol. You sure have all the ingredients for almost anything to occur. You will do well to persue it further, I think. Good luck in the contest, too...Bob

As always, you have written a marvelous beginning for a novel. The first two lines were absolute grabbers.
This brought a lot of sad emotions, but your ending gave hope to the reader that life would again be good.
Excellent!
