deepwater,
I thought this an excellent work, and I enjoyed reading and dwelling on your thoughts. My favorite line is: "leaving you to explore the foreign but new roads of life". Look forward to discovering more of your work. elaine

this is very well written with good form and good flow, a great free verse on the young taking on the world, but i think they need to learn from the elders so they won't make mistakes over and over again.

An excellent poem, which reflected the thoughts of an old man worried about the dark days ahead. I do appreciate your feelings, but I have some disagreement with you on some points. I know full well, it would be foolhardy to criticise a poem which has all the seals, but here are my two cents.
1. What you say about age is true, but you cannot say the same about history. You say it is twilight of history - obviously you mean darkness to come. Incidentally there is a twilight before the dawn also.
2. History is looking up. We have not had any major wars for almost sixty five years. Even the warring factions of the dark continent are realizing the futility of war as an instrument for conflict resolution. The age old autocracies and dictatorships are giving way to democracy. Even Saudi Arabia has now a registered political party for the last few days. The jasmine revolution is spreading fast and the dictators of the Middle East are fleeing, one by one. It is a unipolar world. Of course, the recession, which is troubling now, shall pass, sooner or later. In short, history is looking up, and is much better than what it used to be. There is less scope for negativity. If you mean it is the twilight before the dawn, I agree. However, it wouldn't agree with the general tenre of this poem. I strongly recommend you delete the history part and confine the poem about age for which I have no disagreement.

I like the language and rhythm of this writing. An example of what I like in this poem is in the second line: "...travel our souls have engaged..." This is just so evocative. I was wondering if "and" would read smoother than "but" in line five? Overall I think this writing is well-written and polished.

memories you've had over your lifetime
