Ah yes, the dreaded parents' routine. I don't think age has much to do with that universal predicament! lol
We fell in each others arms - others should have an apostrophe.
I said to him: 'this I never did. I always chucked one, before another one came'. 'I liked not too complicated situations.' 'Mind you, I swapped boyfriends as often as I read books'. 'I lost count in the end:)' - this could come in one set of marks, also there are closing brackets here but no opening ones.
Sometimes you use the '' marks when they aren't needed.
He asked: 'Will you come to my place? But he had not informed his parents yet.' - the mark here should come after the question mark not the very end.
The dialogue/quote sections need a little work making sure closing marks are in the correct place. generally when the words change from first person to third person. (I/my to he/our)
I knew then not if he did too? - this seems more of a statement than a question.
His mother asked: 'Where did I stay?' - in this instance you don't need the quote marks. Using them here means the mother was asking where she would stay rather than you.

This is a warm and loving write Robina and your heart opened in this well written story. What is that all about changing your engagement ring from one finger to another? Never heard of that, but I do know that wedding rings and engagement rings are worn on the right hand in Europe! Love crosses all boundaries of distance and inconvenience if it is strong. You are lucky to have your relationship be so strong. Long distance relationships are hard to maintain, and then, when one's family is not enthusiastic about it, it creates more difficulties for the couple. Sounds like you were both strong enough to overcome these obstacles. Linda

Things are done so differently by each individual...there are cultural differences..this was definitely an interesting time of life where a lot of important decisions had to be made. Good piece. God bless.

aren't parents weird! lol. as too where to
live, you chose wisely. there's too many
bloody hills in Scotland, not good for an
old sop like me! Holland is ideal, everything
is eye-level and evenly balanced, and is
reflected in it's people. i particularly
love Holland and it's people and have spent
muchly good times there. sorry, i digress.
