Hi Susan,
Yikes this story is so creepy! I have heard of spontaneous human combustion and it is difficult to imagine but I guess it does happen for whatever reason. Poor Loretta waking up to find just her legs when everything else was ashes. You last paragraph is stunning. ****** Well done....blessings, chey

HI Katie! Thank you! ") I'm just glad you got a kick out of this. Just for fun post. It's a really odd thing, and real too. I used to be scared I would burst into flames. I guess it could happen. Seems it's usually older people this happens to??? NOT good. Just something else to worry me. Thanks again Katie!! Hugs! Susan

You're welcome Susan

Hi, Susan. I've long been fascinated by the phenomenon of spontaneous human combustion - records of such things go back a hundred years. This was such creepy fun! Warm regards, Bev

Great pairing of gruesome photo and eerie story.
You get inside Loretta Long's intimate thoughts well as she awaits the hospice worker and the end of her life.
How terrifying to awake from a dream to find the campfire from the dream is now her own lap actually going up in flames. That sentence about spitting out the last moisture in her mouth is most compelling Brooke

Weird, but good. I'll vote for you in the contest. Only suggestion is this line:
'And she looked forward to the dreams that rescued her from reality.' could be written 'She looked forward to the dreams that would rescue her from reality.'
Best, Dan :))

Wow, it's amazing I had no idea that such phenomenon existed. Really scary. If what we thought or dreamt could provoke something like this it would be terrifying. Would have liked more details of the phenomenon but understand this is a short story. Good job on the story.

Hi Flower! Please send me details (the technical reason for this low score?) We are supposed to have real reasons to rate this way. I hope you will read the rules about reviewing soon? I am glad you took a minute to read this. Susan
-
Susan I'm very sorry for the 3 star rate. I'm obviously a new reviewer and had not read the rating rules. Just did. I updated the rating.
-
Hi Flower...it's okay, honest! As long as there are reasons...I really don't mind help! I am awful at times with punctuation, etc...please let me know if there is ever something like that? And I will do the same! Thank you Flower...ps...Welcome to FS...S.

Thank you :o)

So welcome Miss Flower! :o) This is a cute smiley! S.

I have heard of this happening at times. Though it is rare for something like this to occur. One cannot help but wonder the hows and whys when it does.
Thanks for sharing this. JW

HI Jonathon! It's real, but still sort of a mystery to the 'experts'. It scares me. It's supposedly a chemical reaction inside the body. But they don't know WHY? I watch a real video of a man whose arm kept catching fire and his wife taped it for the doctors. They can not help him. I get the chills just thinking about it! Thank you again, for reading my weird stories Jonathon...I always appreciate that. Susan

Wow, Suse, what a way to go. I tell you what, I'm going to stop drinking lighter fluid for my heartburn. I might even have to stop watching porn! Nah.
You've given me chills, but I don't dare go near the thermostat.
What have you done to me?
Smoldering, Lee
