I like the image of the dragon growing out of the candle flames
excellent descriptive detail of these protective dragons - a wonderfully imaginative and evocative free verse :-) Brooke

This sure is a fantasy, but your images are clear, Elaine. 'Appear' and 'calendar' might be getting close to rhyme. Apart from that, I can't really comment on what you imagine, and I see it's not meant for a contest. Sorry to disappoint. Peter

Much beauty in this, mermaids. The way you use dragons is fascinating, as you make them out to be protective creatures with toothy smiles. It's interesting what you can imagine in something like candlelight. You have the red, blue and lavender colors that stand out for you. The phrase "candles of life" is excellent. Very imaginative. judi

Greeting me with toothy smile, is a favored line, but I love them all. This reminds me of a dragon lamp we used to have on top of our TV. My dad got it over seas when he fought in the Korean War. He had a toothy little smile too. I wonder where the lamp is now. I love dragons, candles, and wall shadows. I enjoyed the way you mentioned the dragon shadows protected you from fear. I also like entities of strength. This is such a super great poem. I like the color too. It is so candle like. Love Vonnie

Oh beware the candle of life and the dragons be gone. What a wonderful fantasy piece this is Mermaids. I loved it and the way you presented it.

I love fantasy ... Lol. I thought this was a good poem about dragons. It was a little basic for me, but still good. You painted a magical picture. I have a feeling this was about more than just the actual dragon as well.

Good job. Fun read.

Sort of comforting. I guess we look to our surroundings to offer comfort in times of fear and pain. Good use of imagination.
I like the simple presentation. Well done.
