We all have our internal checklists for the changing of the seasons, but it was with real pleasure I read your personal take from a barrier island. That she had not been to the beach since May made me smile as I thought of her sitting there now, on Labor Day weekend. It gave me a sense of real peace.

Your author notes bring clarity to this piece. I can see the good and the not-so-good side of living in an area such as yours. The good side is tourists keep the local economy going, but the not-so-good is the natives get their leavings. I hope you enjoy the rest of the warm days at the beach before winter sets it. I can understand how you feel about the situation.
I always hated the crowds at the lake in the summer but after Labor day it was so quiet and serene on the lake and in Las Vegas we still had warm weather to enjoy. LOL Nice story Gretchen, Nancy

It's like that everywhere that caters to tourists.
What's good for the local economy is not always good for the locals who don't depend on the tourist trade.
I don't mean to be a smart ass, but what 'she' feels is the barometer dropping and the approach of serious hurricane season.
