I believe it or not enjoyed reading this article, but at first I thought it was about reviewing on Fs. I soon got the meaning of it and although I usually skip this type of story, not because they not good, it's because I don't understand them and I never mark low. I did read this one and understood. Have a nice New Year. Mary

This is a very revealing and interesting write for a reader from over the seas. America is the most reported nation on earth and yet we rarely understand fully what it's all about. The protest over the so called racist killings by police always sounded like a story with many faces, yet they were depicted as expressions of righteous anger. I suspect as you say, some protests are actually important. But, when a huge crowd gathers, the right stirrers can suspend intelligent though among the individuals, and create a collective consciousness capable of criminal acts out of proportion to what is being protested. Sometimes, history decides if a protest is worthy. The civil rights marches of the 60's-70's are now adjudged as justified outpourings by history. I suspect they had many disclaimers at the time. Thank you, lancellot, for a year of intelligent engagement with the issues in your country. You always speak like a writer who's done the research, and thought things through intelligently. I wish you the best for New Year and hang in there. Someone needs to say it.

Lance, This is a most interesting essay. You've written it very well. In my opinion, Most rioters are not protesters. The rioters were only trouble makers creating reasons to loot, steal and raise hell. They really didn't care about Brown! I laugh to myself about my friends with opinions about how things are being handled in all of these serious situations. Everyone blames someone else. People who have absolutely no actual idea about what is really going on, say the dumbest things. Some people just feed on the news reporters who are trying to make a name for themselves. It just becomes a frenzy of chaos. You have written an intelligent essay with facts and a thought provoking piece. Very good. Carole

Lance-
I happen to agree in general with your article, although it does not begin to tell the whole story. The saddest part of the big picture is that both sides of the table are so biased that there is no room in the middle to start a discussion. As you mention, the emotional reactions are at the core of the bulk of the problems.
I like what you are saying here, but found it so full of writing errors that I could not go better than a four. I've read quite a bit of your stuff, and this one just looks like it missed out on the editing portion.
-"and the controversial non-indictments decided by of the Grand Juries in those cases." - simple typo, remove 'of'.-
-"To be honest most of the protest I simply ignored as I drove to work every day."- 'protest(s)'.-
-"At the moment there hasn't been any BLM protests aimed at electing any representatives"- 'haven't', and it still should read, 'As of this moment' or 'At the time of this writing' or something similar. It's just awkward.-
-"If one were to watch only CNN, NBC, and MSNBC you would think that all the Tea Party protesters were raving lunatics and the Black Lives Matter protesters were peaceful angels despite the evidence and facts we saw with our lying eyes."- 'If ONE were to watch... ONE would think...'- "despite the evidence and facts we saw with our lying eyes."-again 'we saw' does not match, there is a tense change, subject change, and if I could think of a way to salvage this sentence, I'd tell you, but I am at a loss. It says what you are trying to say, the point is valid, but the sentence is really, seriously awkward. I'd make it two sentences, and make sure it retains the same viewpoint/subject whatever it's called throughout the whole line.-
-"In the case the now debunked University of Virginia gang-rape story"- 'in the case OF...'-
In the end, I think your case is well-delineated, but not up to your usual quality as far as the writing itself goes.
In spite of agreeing with the general jist of the piece, I found it very distracting to read. It really needs a good edit. I probably have ten typos in this review, but I ain't putting it out there as finished work.
Carry on, and I'll see you at the next rally.

The unfair advantage is gained by those who get the first punch, write the first lie, or speak the first truth. However, the truthful are not always in a hurry, and often they patiently wait to hear what others are saying. The truth won't always set you free, but it sure will ease your conscience in the end. Great job. :-)

It is sad but so true. The media has become more of an entertainment rather than investigative outlet for us to rely on. What is really bad is that so many people are ignorant of this fact and jump on the band wagon of any story that appeals to their emotions, whether fact or fiction.

Well done, yet again. It's interesting when you do the research the truth is often surprising. I'm sure plenty of protesters are only there for the fun and action and to be noticed. As for the media, I think they are lower than real estate agents! And biased in many instances. I think you should run for president! This is a great piece of writing set out legibly, Giddy

What you write makes lots of sense, but one wonders if justice and equity fall on deaf ears. The criminals are the victims so they can't be guilty. Well written commentary as always. Faye

A strong outlook on the various protest that engulfed 2014. Your ideas are clear and are presented minus sarcasm. Even though, I don't agree with every point made the writing is intelligent. It's always a pleasure to read another point of view brimming with passionate conviction.
