A great shot of horror here. Reminds me of someone being buried alive, or being awake during surgery, but no one knows it. No one able to hear you scream. Good work.

Aeon Cryogenics Corporations employees celebrated their first-ever successful cryogenic freezing.

The unfortunate Mr. Watson had no way of letting them know he was still very much awake.

I can honestly tell you this, Kim. I have no desire to be immortal. Immortalized through my works, perhaps. Maybe even known for being kind through my deeds and actions towards others. But not immortal.
In Shakespeare's, The Tempest, Prospero has has time to give a beautiful speech that these wonders (his magic), much like life, will melt into thin air eventually. He says, "We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep." It's a beautiful saying, sure, but also a little haunting.

There is something about this that reminds me of an Alfred Hitchcock or Rod Serling story. Creepy without being gorey (my personal choice). Your simple, direct language increases the drama. thanks! Caroline

Thank you for reading and reviewing it, Caroline. I'm not a big fan of slasher flicks or blood and guts. The great Stephen King was once quoted as saying; "The 3 types of terror: The Gross-out: the sight of a severed head tumbling down a flight of stairs, it's when the lights go out and something green and slimy splatters against your arm. The Horror: the unnatural, spiders the size of bears, the dead waking up and walking around, it's when the lights go out and something with claws grabs you by the arm. And the last and worse one: Terror, when you come home and notice everything you own had been taken away and replaced by an exact substitute. It's when the lights go out and you feel something behind you, you hear it, you feel its breath against your ear, but when you turn around, there's nothing there..."

I happen to agree.

When I read this story I actually shivered. There are stories of people who were buried alive or being operated on and not able to tell their doctors they feel every slice of the knife. Poor Mr. Watson. He is experiencing a new twist on something old. Good job!

Dean, well you must remind me to never fall for this marketing ploy lest I be in the same predicament. lol.. You know there is a condition, a rare condition, where there are no detectable vital signs but the person is still alive, though in a deep sleep.
