Hello Brett, I share in this somber tale of a dead love six feet under. The bar is a good setting to start the tale and reflect on the tales told. Good flow, short and sweet. I'm wondering about this line, "and I could tell her about you." I didn't get this. Cheers.

Brett this is a great poem flows well and although you call it free verse it had a nice meter and rhyme. Well constructed I like the layout with short lines also and the image suits. Quite a country and western feel to this one. Nice Cheers Christine

very true love is a very delicate and strong feeling which at times can lead someone astray especially after a break up good work

If only bars could talk and thankfully the bar tender doesn't...This is nicely rhymed and the short lines sets the mood of rambling thoughts of a man pining for love lost.

Hi, Brett...

_ If them walls in the bar could talk. Whooeee!
_ I owned a bar in the 70s. Interesting, and many times heard TMI. (*<*)
_ Loving and losing, unfortunately happens far too often.
_ You told the story well, showing through your words his distress.
_ Well done.

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'... Jax (*:*)

I guess, many a lonesome person has hung onto the bar for comfort when someone has deserted them for another. Well chosen words, rhyme and imagery. Enjoyable read. Faye

I don't think drinking away your pain works but I do know writing about it does. It's like a cold Iced tea drink on a summer day. LOL It took a while but it worked for me. Hang in there.

Such a melancholic poem, Brett. I'm sure many of us have been there.
Nice flow and some unforced rhyme. Love the repeating of Nothing fancy in the first and last couplet. It works very well!!! Fia

Drinking away your pain
There's A Bar
by Brett Matthew West

I like your poem about a love affair gone wrong and a broken heart. Who is the person mentioned in the end? ....And I could tell Her about you..... Was he married?
Good job and for your question, yes my heart was broken a couple of times.

This poem holds that grain of truth that anyone who has gone through a depressing breakup can attest to. The bar time slowly sneaks in to be more than a past time. Nice poem.
