I am glad you could not let 9/11 go by without a tribute--many of the videos are not for the fainthearted. Also, I had forgotten about the "suicide mission," but we must never forget about the heroism displayed fourteen years ago. Thank you for sharing your observations and the reinforcing artwork. Cheers- Joan

Yeah, the first part of this is exactly how I felt. I was taking a class on creative writing at our local Junior College. That day when I showed up for class there were TVs everywhere, in the foyer, the lounge, the library, and every one was glued to the screens. When I saw that plane hit the towers, my first thought was why were the showing some action film all over the college. Then, the announcer began to restate the events, and I was just in shock. It was so unbelievable. This is great article. We should forget the passengers on the fourth plane and the bravery that it took to stand up against those terrorists. I would like to think that I would do the same, but we will never know, until we actually have to face that situation.

No, we will never know. I'd like to think I would stand up to them too.

A well-written tribute, Dawn, nobody will ever forget that tragic day. So many heroes were made that day, especially the NY City Police officers who went up the stairs to rescue when they must have known they might never come down again. Excellent visuals. One thing, Para 1, day of infamy. Faye

How can we ever forget... unknown names and faces... yet they did so much to end that tirade against the US...
I was in Starbucks, in San Antonio Texas...
sitting with my husband and friends.
Waiting to take my husband, Jimmy to the airport.
He worked in Algeria at the time. He was to fly out in two hours.
The news came in on CNN on a computer that a friend had.
We all hovered around the monitor in horror... the first crash hit
the first tower, we were stunned.
The second ... then the third...
We couldn't believe it... we were all motionless...
it must be a mistake.
and then... we all began to scatter.
He didn't fly for another week.
It was the first time I had ever felt absolute TERROR
to have him fly overseas.
And a bit of trepidation has always remained since.
Thank you, Dawn, for your very well written piece... and for putting your whole heart into it...
Well done

Last weekend was our air show in Toronto. I used to attend the air show, and I used to love to fly, even on single engine, small planes. An extremely turbulent flight back from the tropics in the 1980's kept me from flying again, except once, when I tried to face my newly-born fear of it. I had already boarded a plane to New York and of course, once on, you can't get off.
But the planes overhead last weekend struck fear into my heart, and since 9/11, I had already decided nothing could ever make me board a plane again.
Now even hearing them (I live very close to Lake Ontario, where the annual air show takes place) sends me into the house to hide - part of it is the noise, but most of it is the fear that there will be another crash. Years earlier I witnessed one of the air shows tragedies - that plane went into the lake, killing the pilot.
I can't be around planes anymore without fear, and the thought of what those passengers faced on all three flights is so upsetting, I'm ill. But they deserve to be remembered - all of them - the responders, those in the towers that day, those on the ground, at the Pentagon - all of them.
Thanks so much, Cat.

I fly quite often (if I want to go anywhere...) and when I say, "often" I mean... a couple of times a year... and then nothing... and then, maybe ... once or twice.e.. I mean, I've gone to germany, england, france, and all the caribbean places and you know... tourist spots... but yeah, i'd rather stay home. LOL not because of fear, as I think it's probably safer to fly than drive ... especially with all the texting going on... but my husband works in Egypt... 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off... before that, Algeria, before that..Alaska... and so, for us... it's always been a traveling world... my son flew yesterday on the 11th... he was in the air and on the way to Philly before I realized what day it was... I guess the memories fade a little at a time, but the trepidation was high at the moment of remembrance... so yeah... we never forget. ((((((hugs)))))

1.) some rookie pilot of a small plane who('d) lost control,
2.) finally had to admit there was something much worse going on.
--> exactly right! EXACTLY!
3.) had hit these towers intentionally would not compute.
--> good verbage on the use of 'WOULD not'
Great presentation. Strong visual words to create powerful imagery. Then you sock us with the videos. Masochist.
Fabulous presentation. KUDOS

Thank you for the edit tip, Robyn, and for this wonderful review. I remember it so often, and I just had to write about it again.

Excellent post on the horror of 9/11. Those brave souls that went down with the plane rather than have it head toward D.C., the victims of the towers, the Pentagon plane victims, those on the ground, the rescuers, the families--all must not be forgotten. Thank you for writing. Marilyn

I watched several of the videos but had to stop, it was just too heartbreaking. I still cry when I see the planes crashing into the towers. While watching the news reports of the first plane I saw the second as it crashed into the other tower. So many lives lost, a day I will NEVER forget. Lovely tribute to those that died that day.

Those events changed our lives and our world forever. Everytime a see a picture or hear it being talked about I feel the heaviness in my heart and soul all over again. This was a good share. Thank you. Shirley

A fitting to those brave men and women who took up the call of duty with no thought of their own safety.
I did not know that there was no coverage of the flight that the hostages took down. America and the world will mourn this day forever more

The official coverage was after the fact. I did see one video that was an amateur's (supposedly), but when I tried to find it again on YouTube, I couldn't. So much has been controversial about Flight 93, some saying the plane was shot down, some saying it didn't crash where we were told it did, but I believe it was as it was first reported - the high jackers were overcome by the passengers in flight. There is just too much evidence to support the fact. Just like there are people who insist the holocaust never happened, there are those who insist the whole thing was a government conspiracy too. Craziness, in my opinion, and sick.
