This is a very well written commentary, fulfilling all criteria of the format and substance of the Writing Prompt. The accompanying illustration perfectly mirrors and complements the subject matter of the poem. This is a clever and cute treatment of the topic. Great job!

Keep well.

A few years ago it was a trend to hug a tree when you ferk stressed. It was meant to release your body from your stress. Never tried it though.

Hello, Poet,

I appreciate your perspective in this short piece. The world certainly shrinks around us as we age. Anyone whom has ever gone back to their old elementry school will know the feeling, lol.
Nice work with this entry, and my best for its success!
Bill

As a child my arms
Would not reach around our big
Maple. Now they do.

Dear Mystery Writer,

I think this is a fun entry into this contest, and should do well with voters. I think we can all remember those days and see evidence of our growth~! (unfortunately!) My only question is regarding the capitalization. Since it's primarily a running sentence AND maple doesn't needs caps, I might revise?

Thanks for sharing and good luck!

That's wonderful! Innocent, simple, to the point. :D & The image goes with it perfectly.

I love the idea that hugging a tree (and maybe the associated love of nature & ecology, although maybe I'm reading into it too much) is something that you might strive your whole life for--a childlike ambition never given up.

The enjambment and punctuation are very effective and give a nice cadence to the piece.

I thank you for your review. With four stars there are usually some errors that need correcting. Would you please point them out or point out whatever there is that needs working on so that I might bring this entry up to par. Thanks. I want to ba able to improve and that is how we do so with reviews but we need those things pointed out. I have a tough skin and really want the honest critique.

To be honest, in a haiku there isn't a lot to critique specifically (it's just so short!). This poem is essentially a thought--elegant, brief, and charming.

I'm new to this site, so I'm still learning about the rating system, but four stars doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your work--quite the contrary. It's just that four is pretty much the highest rating I give things (my own stuff is somewhere in the two-to-three star range, btw).

    Bonne chance!!

I have discovered that there is a maximum of six-stars and that five stars really more accurately describes what I wanted to say--but I find no evidence of this sixth star! Where is it?

Six star rating is just below the five star rating. Blessings today.

What an adorable picture of a tree hugger. Those who hug trees as children become their protectors in adulthood. It is good to be able to truly encircle them with our protection as we grow up.

Your poem brings up good feelings and I like the line about how you can hug a tree as an adult. A warm feeling comes forth and your words show the wonderful feelings trees give us. I wish you well in the contest.
