This very short poem PUTS YOU THERE on that Chinese fisherman's boat as he glides back into his village with a "plentiful catch." The soft S-alliteration and consonance creates the perfect mood that captures the essence of the photo.

Great contrast of successful fishermen vs. unsuccessful seagulls in your haiku here. The line "seagull's shame" especially stands out because, as having sharper vision, the seagull would expect to be the one to catch more fish first than any ordinary human who didn't evolve by nature's design to be that way specifically of course.

Wow, perfect understanding of what this haiku is about. Haiku is always short. It has to be 17 syllables or less.

I love haiku and all Japanese poetry in general. It takes a great deal of creativity and grasp of the art of elegant brevity. It's a challenge I always enjoy.

It makes me happy when the reader 'gets it'. The satori is always clever.

Thank you for the review and kind words.

You accomplished form 6/5/3. Is this nature or about season? I think the clarity needs to enhance that this is a summer's plentiful and go from there. Other than that, I like the fisherman's plentiful and catch to boast tonight. For the compact piece, it can be easily forgotten with the idea. The illustration appropriately enhances the poem's point. But I think the haiku is about physical nature and season. Best.

    Fishing is related [kigo (seasons)]

    ***** Location: Japan
    ***** Season: Various, see below.
    ***** Category: Humanity

    Explanation

Along the long coastlines of Japan, fishing was one of the most important activities to keep the hungry mouths fed and make money with a good catch.

The word FISHING just like that is not a kigo.
But we have many kigo related to fishing.

kawagari 川狩 (かわがり) fishing in the river
    lit. "hunting in the river"
many different methods are used along the various rivers of Japan.
    seboshi 瀬干し(せぼし)drying out the shallows
    ..... semawashi 瀬廻し(せまわし)

Yes. Japanese believe everything is nature. Haiku is about nature but it'd not the idea most westerners have. Haikuist in Japan use over 6000 season related words. Fish can relate to summer, when the fishing is done in the summer. You don't have to sleep out spring, summer etc

Thank you for the review and kind words.

G'day mate. Beautiful work once again, love the pic as well. We are back in the Philippines now and I'll get to eat some nice fresh fish and seafood, straight off the boats again. So I hope your vision here is true and they are indeed plentiful.

Great work.

Cheers Fez
