Your crime fiction chapter was good. It is very well written. I look forward to reading more by you. You clearly have a talent, and should continue it.

Lilibug6 is a great photographer. Especially of people. I usually disdain people in fanart posting mundane pictures of family. Don't see it as artistic. But, she makes them artistic. I enjoyed this chapter, immensely, Brett and look forward to the next one. What would the sheriff day if another boy just flat out attacked Cody fir no reason. Should he fight back? I was in this situation. Three boys attacked me after school and tried to pull my blouse off. I was nine and they were ten. And, yes, I was a girl against three older boys. But, I won. I have a fury inside of me when needed. But, I am a total pacifist when not threatened. I came home with buttons missing and blouse torn. Even though my six year old brother was a witness for the defense, I still got in trouble for fighting. I was supposed to let them molest me and send me home naked? I think not. I always wondered why my brother did not help. But, now, I know he was too small. A ten year old boy is twice as big as a six year old. Thank you for sharing

Lilibug6's picture "This Is Evan" has provided Cody a readily recognizable face here on FanStory. Three books, and several short stories later, when members see the picture they know the story is about Cody. This has occurred more than 9,000 times. That number is staggering to me, but is the latest count of the number of times members have read about Cody. Simply amazes me! Glad you enjoy Cody's story and invite you to continue following as his story unfolds. What would the Sheriff do if Cody defended himself? That was covered in another book and the Sheriff fully agreed with Cody defending himself. What the Sheriff does not want is for Cody to start a fight, and worse than that, turn around and lie about it too.

I always love your writing. I like how you showed love after the discipline. I love how there was no anger. Cody knew the Sheriff had disciplined him because he loved him...unlike his biodad. I also like how he kept the paddle on his dresser, as a reminder to behave. Well done.

Thanks for sharing. ..Penny

You are redoing this or is this new. I am getting lost.
The writing is spot on with no mistakes noted.
Instead of running away as most kids would think of doing, he stood his ground and took his punishment

Brett, I think I was 7 when my father was to apply a spanking to me and my younger brother. He was crying his fool head off and dad hadn't touch him yet. I bent over and put my face in the mattress. Got six butt cracking smacks with dad's inch thick piece of rubber. When I stood up, I was smiling and that was the last time he spanked me. He told me, I will never do this to you again. I will teach you right from wrong and if you fail to understand that, then you will fail yourself. I learned what he taught me!

I think today, since this aspect of discipline is no longer tolerable, parents today have lost their children.

Thanks for the memory of what used to be and well done,,,,,,,,Jim

Glad you enjoyed this realistic portrayal of our little boy, Cody.

Since this a revision for the live version of this story I was more surprised by the fact the actors portraying Brock Daniels and Cody insisted I keep this scene in the story.

    Who would have thought that?

Guess, at least here in Nashville, people still support this form of child disciplining.

    Appreciate your comments and support.

That is how children should be punished. It only take one good spanking and you see the wisdom in mom and dads words clearly. I remember dad had the sole leather man's shoe size a throwaway from the shoe factory where he worked. It stung like the devil. I never felt abused because I knew I had done wrong. Spare the rod, spoil the child. That is a fact.
Well done Brett. Bet you got some flack over this. Nancy

    Actually no I have not.

In this book I am trying to paint Cody as realistically as I possibly can and all respondents have agreed with my way of doing so in this chapter.

Since this is a revision for a live version of this book to be performed here in Nashville I was actually more surprised that the actors involved in the show insisted that I keep this part of the story.

    Glad you enjoyed it.
