A great Pleiades. Homer is such an interesting choice. It's hard to fathom that his writing has endured all these centuries.

I enjoyed you notes, too. I guess there's not way to pinpoint when he actually lived, but it doesn't matter.

Hi Kim,

You are the master of Pleiade poetry, as I have read many of your Pleiade poems. Your portrait of Homer is well written. It's not easy to begin each line with the same letter. Great job! What a terrific piece of artwork! Your author notes are very enlightening. It's nice to read about poets of bygone days.

I was worried that something had happened to you or a loved one when I didn't see your post by the time I went to bed last night. I'm relieved to hear that all is well. I don't know how on earth you managed to write this while putting together a banquet. Kudos Kim!

    Hi Connie,

I loaded everything I was bringing in the Jeep and sat down and wrote this while my husband was finishing getting ready lol I even brought my laptop along with to try and get it posted, but through a series of events (people who were sick and couldn't show up, I ended up doing double duty for set up and working the door lol) Best laid plans always go awry, right? We had a fantastic time, though. It is always emotional to have our Seniors leave us every year.

Thanks for the great review :)

A very well-written Pleiades poem. One of the earlier poets in hustory. You did greeat research on this ancient poet Homer who had many heroic tales to tell in his time.

    Hi Sandra,

Thanks for the great comments. I want to explore him further in a longer write. Now to learn dactylic hexameter lol I appreciate the review.

Hi Kim,
I was worried that you had not posted your poem for your book. Then I remembered about your hockey 'stuff'. Glad you got to post it now.

The subject is awesome. You did a great job with your poem. The art is awesome. The lines that follow are meaningful & so informative. The syllables are correct. Thanks for the notes, too.

Good job. Jan

I enjoyed your homage to Homer as a paean to poets in general. Nicely crafted Pleiades, great artwork and the historic context is fabulous. The seven sisters must be proud today. - Wendy

The pleiades is alive and well and still kicking I see. This is skillfully compiled with elements of rhyme running all through, starting with the full rhyme tales/sails and moving through the triple assonance of unfolds/exposed/woes and the near rhyme of was/Ulysses. This all helps to weld the whole tightly together. This is one of the best pleiades you have written in my opinion.

    Hi Pantygynt:

I'm really happy to read your comments this morning. I was unsure after this snippet of a review from a trusted source, as to whether in my haste writing I had botched it a bit:

But also, the tense shift is mildly disconcerting as well. It should be past tense, I believe.

    Heroic were the tales
Homer told -- when ship sailed
    his Odyssey unfolded.

Obviously, unfolded no longer rhymes, so maybe try some alternative synonyms there?

Poetic license permits the lapse, so five stars in spite of it. Still, I strongly recommend revision of the tenses.

Thank you for your comments, especially the last line in this review. I'd like to explore Homer in a longer piece. Do you have any pointers on dactylic hexameter? lol That is something I've never attempted before.

With all due respects to whoever wrote that he or she is talking rubbish. I could explain why and maybe I will when I am not on a tablet.

    Hi Debbie,

We must have been running the playbook for "if something could go wrong it did" last night lol but all in all, once the banquet got underway it was all a success. Thanks for the great comments.

Great Pleiades Poem, Kim, and in perfect form, no less.
Thank you too for supplying the very informative author's notes.
I thought I'd finally discovered what the great poet, Homer, actually looked like.
Imagine my disappointment when I realized the "portrait" was merely speculative.
Oh well...

    Hi Dean,

That was my hope, too, when I found the painting. But it was so well done that I couldn't resist using it - I love the classical pairings, especially with the Pleiades poems. Thanks for taking the time to read and review. I always appreciate reading your comments.
