A very well-written sonnet in the style of Louise Labe' and also a great tribute to het and her lifestyle. It seems like a very interesting sonnet format, which I would like to give a try soon.

    Hi Sandra,

That is what I thought, too. I couldn't resist giving her style a try, and I'm really not a sonnet writer. Her life story was so interesting that I felt I couldn't let her go unmentioned. Prior to my quatern search, I'd never heard of her. What a gem to find. That's why I love research! Thanks for the great comments.

Bravo, Kim! Again, you've done a great job sharing the info about Louise Labe (accent aigu over the 'e' but FS does not allow accented letters to appear in the comments.) I commend you for the great biography. I've heard of her but I didn't know that she was an archer and horsewoman, too. I didn't know she was a contemporary of Clement Marot as well. They are in my French collection of poems. It's great that you kept her structure of sonnets of two quatrains followed by two tercets.

    Hi lyenochhka,

I liked her style of sonnet, it was unique to what I'd seen before. In reading about her and reading her work she appears to be a spirited individual, so full of life. I think more like a 21st century woman than the women of her day. I enjoyed her bio and just had to share. Thank you for the fantastic comments. I'm glad that I stumbled upon her.

This is a well-written poem you've penned.
I almost mistook it for a Bio poem.
The portrait is beautiful.
The poem has rhyme.
The author's notes are greatly appreciated.- Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your poem.
Good luck with your future writing!

    Hi Nicole,

I've been thinking about doing a Bio poem but haven't settled on a subject yet. I suppose this one would have qualified, I just didn't think of it. I just found Louise Labe' to be a fascinating character. Thank you for a lovely review.

Kim,
You did an excellent job with this sonnet. [I know from experience how difficult they are to write--I failed].

I enjoyed reading this poem. I read it through first without reading the notes. Then I read the note & reread the sonnet. It flows well, there is great rhyme--even internal rhymes, great use of alliteration, & awesome descriptive phrases. The image is perfect if not haunting.

Your notes are exquisite. I reread them again. I learn so much from you each time you post. Thank you.

My father's family was related to Joan of Arc. I would not wish to have lived in that period of time--all the hardships, the illnesses, the lack of, well everything, & the disregard for life. If someone didn't like you, you would be dead in an instant.

Good job & thanks for sharing. Jan

    Hi Jan,

What did you think of Louise? Doesn't she sound like she was an amazing person? I mean, who knows what may be pure fact after 400 years, but I think she'd be an awesome person to have a conversation with from that time period. Almost like a 21st Century woman who lived long before her time. Thank you for this extensive and enthusiastic review.

How cool to be related, albeit distantly, to Joan of Arc. She's one of my favorite historical figures. I'm adopted, so I can't even tell you who my birth parents were, let alone know anything of my nationality or lineage. (ok, other than I know that my birth mother's name was Mary Ann Johnson) It doesn't get much more common than that.

    I loved your comments!

Excellent tribute! You did an great job taking detailed events and putting them into a short but powerful prose. I admire those who have that ability.
