In the face of tragedy, many do find the courage to smile.
This parent did.
I don't know how many really can.
She preferred to remember their enjoyable day together, and that they were safe, than dwell on the tangible loss.

I didn't see any thing to correct.
Good luck in the contest.

I would wallow, but it would be lovely to think I could find a smile/ Thanks.

Ditto from someone who used to keep everything. I've been clearing out my house and it's really very freeing.

Yeah, I would be happy to give it away, but watching it burn...that has to be tough.

How cool that story was, or should I say hot? Love how you finished it with what lies beneath. the allegory was that she was that underneath her words about cleaning, she was just happy they spent precious time together and didn't die. But loved the ending. Good luck.

You know, Stan, all these years later. I still remember your winning flash about the man ready to kill himself before he got the phone call from his grandson. Maybe we need to be reminded why we write. Thanks , ingrid

Very enjoyable and unexpected story. A complete story told compactly using only 75 words. I especially enjoyed the silver lining aspect of the story and how it came from nowhere to surprise the reader. Thanks for sharing

I wish I was so optimistic. I'm afraid my reaction would never have been so altruistic. Thanks for the review.

What a great philosophy. Midst all the horror and loss, she was able to focus on the truly important things in life. Well done. I like that attitude.

I like the attitude too, sadly, it comes from my imagination, not the way I'd behave. Thanks for the review/

This is a great flash story. You manage to tell a full story with beginning, middle and end. Not a mean feat in just 75 words. And it's a great wee tale although the theme is so very sad. They lost all of their possessions and physical memories. An then comes the punch line. At least, she hadn't spent the day cleaning. What a horrible waste that would have been. She kept her sense of humour. Yes, I liked it a lot, and good luck. All the best. Ulla:)))

It is an exceptional person who can come up with such a statement in the face of such a tragedy. That is a very frightening picture. A good entry for the flash fiction contest Ingrid. Well done. Good Luck. :) Nancy

Believe me, it came out of my imagination. I could NEVER be that positive. Thanks for the review.

So devastating this is and it is a lesson to all of us you never know what each day will bring. Our days are never promised because life is so unpredictable.

Well done and said! My sentiment exactly. Life is so short and possessions, well, can't take them with you. Photos are the hardest to lose. This piece is a kind reminder that our memories stay with us much longer.
Kindest regards to you and your family, I hope you all are well and safe.
Sally

YOu did a great job with this and I found it well written and very clever. I think you posted this as a script. That should be easy to change. I enjoyed this very much and wish you all the best in this contest.

Hope and humor in the face of despair. It's a hard thing to do. I wouldn't know what I'd do if I lost everything. I guess I'm still tied to material goods. Nice job creating an effective situation with so few words. Good job.
