This is beautiful, Lisa. It's sad but very well-written. I like the repeated lines.
I hope it is not autobiographical...
Great poem. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks Maria. I usually write in the first person. This poem is not about a specific loss in my life, but it does cover anyone I know who has died and I hope it speaks to others who have felt the loss of a loved one.

Really enjoyed your poem. Writing about loss can be some of the most painful and personal things to write about, yet the most comforting and healing things as well. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for this lovely review. The poem, although personal, is universal for all those who grieve.

How poignant! The helplessness we feel when we lose someone is so disparaging and yet we know in time we will heal somewhat; not entirely, ever. But everything you say in your poem is basically everything we feel and so I find it such a very good expression of your sadness.

Such a beautiful elegy and poem of comfort. It is a simple truth, but a hard one to grasp. I love the tender understanding of each beautiful stanza. Even the picture is gentle and kind. xo

Who are you, and what have you done with my beloved and snarky LisaMay?!!!

Relax, she'll be back soon. The sun has turned her soft in the head. She'll be back to her bitter best in winter back home.

You sustain the melancholy tone of grieving throughout this poem by (1) mentioning all the normally happy things missing today and (2) your use of the short refrain "Not today." But there is optimism in knowing someday the Speaker and her friend will be reunited. Rod

A precious poem. Guessing about a loved one? Loved the words and the rhyme also the beautiful accompanying picture. Thanks for sharing. I forget where you are? Bit worried since I just paid for another month that the "Ip Overs" are all gonna disappear on Summer Vacation.

Thanks so much for your very generous review, Tootsie. The poem is personal, but universal now that it is public, for anyone who grieves and needs reassurance.
I am living in NZ, but currently on vacation in North Qld. visiting a sister near Airlie Beach.

It seems inappropriate to critique this in poetic terms but i guess that;s why we are here

"Not today
will heaven be bright;
the dark sky too, it grieves."

"For today
I sadly mourn,
the day you up and died."

Blessings - DJ

Thanks Dolly for your kind comments. The poem is personal, but now is out there for all who mourn.
